You will be going home with cockroaches

Avoid the Marriott Waikoloa at all costs. Pros - staff are friendly and professional. Beautiful beach access. Cons - room descriptions on Marriott.com are lies. We booked the standard 1 king room which had a description AND photos showing a "separate living and sleeping areas". What we got was a single tiny dingy room, no couch, no chairs just two beds and a $20 coffee maker. - cockroaches in the rooms, You will probably be going home with cockroach eggs, so get ready to call the exterminator when you get home! - staff looks underpaid, overworked and overall miserable though they try to put the best possible face on it. - you are charged $30 per day for "self-parking" but the only place to park is a VALET parking lot, with tiny spaces stacked two rows deep. So everyone has to park crooked and jam each other so you can't open your car doors.
A+ resort

Beautiful resort right on the ocean. Big rooms with a nice gym and amenities. Beach and pool area is gorgeous with plenty to do for a week vacation. They also have a variety of shops and restaurants nearby. It’s also away from the main bustle of Kona.
DON’T STAY HERE!

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!! We have been staying at this Marriott hotel for many, many years! We won’t be back. The standard of this Marriott in Waikoloa has fallen dramatically! Management is not maintaining this hotel. It is now at the level of a motel. The last straw was taking away the Valet parking service. There is now only self-parking and that is uneven and difficult to navigate especially for older guests like us. We typically choose a Marriott hotel because we know the standard of service and cleanliness that we will get! NO LONGER TRUE HERE!!
WAY Overpriced for an Outdated Room

an effort to have a relaxing stay away from the big cities and noise - they booked us into a room overlooking an incredibly noisy pool. Thanks to a wonderful front desk person, Cyan, she booked us into a suite overlooking the much quieter side of the resort. As a Marriott titanium member I am a big fan, but NOT of this hotel. It is outdated, you can barely move your luggage across the old carpet to get to your room. The in room coffee is horrible and EVERYTHING has a fee attached, from parking, to breakfast, to better coffee. Definitely OVER priced. If I paid $200 or less a night I might reconsider but even then remember everything has an extra fee. One other note, the housekeeper was still working in the room to which we were assigned and was astonished we had the room - called her supervisor and he came to check our room key to see if it worked. Then as we were eating while waiting for our room - I received a call asking us to change our room. Why was housekeeping trying to keep us from this room? Very strange experience. Also the screen door has a hole in it and was really hard to open and close.
Bait & Switch

I booked a double room, ocean view for an exorbitant amount of money but it was vacation and I wanted to be able to enjoy an ocean view room. When I checked in, the desk agent told me that she had ‘upgraded’ me to a pool view room. After I informed her that I had paid for an ocean view room, she told me that she didn’t have any. She offered me a $200 credit. That was clearly insufficient for what I paid. After insisting that we speak to the manager (who never showed his/her face), she returned 10 minutes later to say she was able to accommodate the request on the top floor of the hotel. When we arrived, it was a pool view room, with a glimpse of the ocean (like nearly every other room in the hotel) on the top floor. Beyond the bait and switch, the hotel was run down, the food was awful and the service unsatisfactory. Don’t stay there. There have to be better hotels for the money nearby.
