The hotel would get a 4 star review if it wasn't for the fact that our vehicle was stolen from their parking lot and they went to great lengths to basically ignore us and make sure that it was clear to us right away that they wold take no responsibility. Here is what is wrong with what happened: 1) The parking lot gate was broken, so no card or room key was needed to go out with a car and the cameras were broken too. There was no sign mentioning that and based on what they told the police officer that came to file a report, both the gate and the cameras had been broken for weeks. The security guard that assisted us was really nice but the hotel took no responsibility for their fault 2) We did not need it, but the hotel did not even offer to drive us to Kona, which is 25 minutes away (that is where the airport is). 3) We were supposed to receive a call from a hotel representative which NEVER happened. I called 4 times to follow up and left 4 messages for the general manager and he NEVER returned my calls 4) When I finally managed to talk to the head of security, he was genuinely sorry and apologetic and he promptly put the Marriot claim department in touch with me. Only issue is that the representative from the claim department did not even say "we are sorry for your vehicle"....first thing out of his mouth was that they had no responsibility because there are signs in the parking lot clearly stating that the hotel "has no responsibility in case of theft. The impression they gave me is that they did not care that a crime had happened on their facility, or at least they acted this way. They did nothing to help us and mostly wanted to get this away from them as soon as possible. The facility is nice and well priced compared to other Hotels in the area but they really need to work on their customer service and they need to start taking more accountability for what happens on their premises.Show less

Good facilities can only go so far - the service has to keep up

Was going to walk to a nearby restaurant but it started to rain so came back to the hotel. The main restaurant overlooks the hotel grounds and is quite nice in terms of interior design, but the service is very awful. The food comes out very slowly, I know this is not a fast paced place but 50 minutes I think is universally too long from ordering to getting food on the table. I mean, if this was a small family restaurant I’d understand if the service is slow, but this is a mega corporation that runs a kitchen that’s designed to be a factory that turns out food. I guess the kitchen needs some practice? Also, the drinks took like 20 minutes to come out.

    thank you!

I spent a week at this resort at the begining of October on a solo trip (my first to the Big Island). Thanks to the amazing staff for making my week fatastic. Charlene checked me in and I received a complimentary upgrade. Debbie and Christian at the front desk kept me laughing and were super helpful all week. Allison with the concierge was helpful with everything and got me on a helicopter tour. Her and Asia were great to speak with daily when i walked by. Michelle with the vacation club was awesome. Kyrah, keith, Allan, Oren, RJ and Mary Kay were also great and spoke to me on a daily basis. I know I'm probably leaving some people out but everyone i met and spoke with were fabulous! A hui hou...

My husband and I stayed at the Waikoloa Marriott October 1 - 6. We were greeted warmly at the valet and every interaction we had with hotel staff was positive. In particular, Debb at the front desk was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the property. R.J. At the valet was speedy in getting us our car when we felt like venturing out, and Michael at the bar took good care of us. The property itself is beautiful and well-maintained. Uncle Mike at the water slide was very entertaining and energetic with all the kids, cheering them on and providing a bubble machine. So fun! We loved the infinity pool too. We will definitely be back next year! Aloha.

Place is nice and quiet. Not much to do but pool and beach. There are two small shopping malls nearby which was very convenient. A trolley is also available for $2 each way. It’s only worth it if it’s too hot outside. The beach is gorgeous! Reminds me of Maldives and Tahiti. It’s almost as blue as their beaches. During high season, this place can be very hectic. Come during off season so you can fully appreciate and enjoy. High season would be very difficult to find a place to sit by the pool. I’d come back during slow season but not high season.
