    Buffets Suck. Restaurants open one at a time

    Nice and clean. Friendly staff. No nightlife at all, maybe due to covid. The buffets suck. Due to covid only one reservation restaurant was open at a time if you didnt make a reservation your only option was the buffet. The same not so good food was served all the time. I get it’s difficult to maneuver around covid but if this is a pared fown version of what they used to have they should do a lesser version well. But they didnt. Its enough reason not to spend your all inclusive money on this resort.

    Premium level disorganized. Took a long time to check in. Room not ready, things not working or there but they were fixed quickly. Waves are very loud (not their fault, but be forewarned). Bed comfortable, pillows are lumpy foam. Room cleanliness very slack. Irregular towel service, 2 towels even though there were 3 in the room. Turn down service for 2 only each night $35USD/night to upgrade at hotel Not permitted to reserve a hospitality suite for checkout. HS bare except for dirty used towels; no bathroom toiletries, no towels, no hairdryer, broken shower head Wait staff pass on orders, one asked if the service was good; looking for a tip. Good drink service around the pools. It is family oriented and quiet at night. There were a few students and a few bachelor/bachelorette parties and a convention arriving the day we left. It's sub-standard for the Barcelo chain. We've stayed a quite a few of them. Our trip to the airport was over booked and some people had to stand for the trip. The bus driver brought his son who took up one of the seats. I left my backpack at the bus and went back to pick it up almost immediately. The bus driver had it in his hand and gave it to me. An hour later, I went to take out my noise cancelling headphones and they were gone. I made a complaint to the hotel but they just passed the buck to Sunwing and Sunwing just ignored it. Definitely not the best choice of resorts.

    I love to leave reviews, whether good or bad because they truly are hopeful. Unfortunately this review is going to leave much to be desired. I’m writing this review while still here. Let me start with our welcome, I have noticed many other guests being welcomed as soon as they get to the entrance with a drink, that wasn’t the case with us. Also have seen many guests been informed of the welcome drinks at the reception, also not our experience. We didn’t received much information about the resort and pretty much had to figure things out on our own. No map was given, no list of restaurants etc. Upon arriving to our room it wasn’t what we booked. We asked to be move and that was done the following day. The room was lacking everything! The shower door was broke, the closet door was broken, There was one outlet for the entire bedroom, the air conditioning was terrible, room was always humid. Light fixtures didn’t work and took over 4 hours to get someone to come fix. The cleaning service needs a lot of work as well, we asked for daily cleaning and the rooms would get cleaned at 5pm if that, one day they missed us entirely and wanted to interrupt us midday to clean, while we were getting ready to leave for the night. The service everywhere was extremely slow, and lost times the staff would completely forget to bring what we had asked for. The food was not great! The options are also very limited! We had dinner at the Italian restaurant one night and it was the worst I’ve ever had! I ordered mussels that seemed to have been microwaved because they were as hard as a rock! Drinks are terrible!! We tried it all and could not find one decent drink! Oh maybe the beer and that was mediocre at best, it was warm. This place needs a lot of work. The staff is friendly but they seem to be short handed and forgetful. It hasn’t been the greatest experience, we have been spending more time next door at the viceroy and eating there where the food is expensive but it’s been so worth it! I rather pay more for something edible. Not one meal here was pleasant.

    New Years Bust

    Stayed here for New Years and unfortunately it was not worth it from the beginning. Upon check-in we were directed to the Premium Check-in as thats what I reservation was booked for. Had a long wait for available receptionist. There was a self serve complimentary drinks and snacks but nothing to wow over. Receptionist was nice, then taken to our room. Upon entering the room I told bell boy this isn’t what was booked. Called the receptionist and they tried to tell me that someone else booked my reservation which was wrong as I always book my own. Guest service manager came and tried to tell me same thing but after talking with Hotels.com and showing what I booked and paid for he who was completely rude and ignorant, offered me a 30 minute massage to stay the night in wrong room. Told him the massage should have been an hour and already comped for the incompetence. My significant other who doesn’t understand english well even stated he was rude. The rest of the stay was not that much better but met a few guests from other countries and we made the best of it. None of us could get reservations for the premium restaurants as they were always booked. The buffet was ok and lunch was always burgers and nachos. The bartender that worked the New Years party was really good tho. He’s the only thing that this place has. I just realized Im staying at another brand hotel of Barcelo in Cancun this June, hoping it’s not the same experience.

    I really do not like writing poor reviews of potentially fabulous properties a Barceló needs so much work to even get one at your store, I do not know where to begin except really at check-in… my room was being paid for by my company and the gentleman insisted on taking my credit card and charging for the entire stay instead of just putting a hold on it and a week later I am still fighting with Barcelo to credit me… The restaurants for dinner were booked every night that we were there… So we ended up at the Buffet which was average at best. The rooms were very clean. The beach and pool areas were both very nice as expected. I just expected much more from a ‘luxury’ resort.
