We've been going here for over 35 years. I'm sure Mr. Marriott has no idea how things have changed. No turn-down service the first night (BTW, you used to get a cookie on your pillow, now - nothing). Not a big deal, but our t.p. was never changed until we had to do it ourselves. The new floors mean that you hear everything in every room around you at all hours. The bar, Rita's, is incredibly poorly laid out. There is a long "community" table which probably seats 20 people - but who wants that? And the chairs at the tables have such short backs that they're incredibly uncomfortable. Even the landscaping, which used to be spectacular, is now just ok. And this may sound petty, but as elite members we were disappointed not to get upgraded and they no longer waive the ridiculous resort fee. Also, I was never able to make an out-going call from our room. I kept getting "you are not able to make this call; please contact your system administrator" And no one could figure it out! On the plus side, the spa is still wonderful (although very, very expensive). And Tanya, our server in Rita's bar, was great.

GONE WAY DOWNHILL - DON'T STAY; THEY DON'T WANT YOU

What I relate here will happen to you in one form or another if you stay at this place. Two years ago it was one of my top 5 favorite hotels. Staying a week ago, it moved to the bottom. As other reviewers have noted, you are often not told the truth by staff. And you often will not get what you are promised. Here are some specifics: 1. The internet frequenlty does not work. The hotel sent a technician to my room to "fix it," who played with my tablet, and was honest enough to say that several guests had the same problem and could not connect to the internet. He said his supervisor would come to the room soon. No one else ever appeared. I HAD NO INTERNET FOR 4 DAYS. This can happen to you. The hotel staff acts like they don't speak English when you complain about this. 2. During the 4 day stay, it usually took between 5 to 10 minutes for anyone to answer the phone. This is due to their not having enough staff. It also discourages you from making a request, which costs them money, and is the main reason they don't answer the phone. 3. Related to #2 above, I got turn down service the first night, but not the second. Two years ago it was automatic. When I finally got someone on the phone, they said, "Oh, you have to request it every night." Great, so to get it, I have to wait on hold for 5 to 10 minutes, and then ask for it. They won on this. I just didn't ask for it from then on rather than wait on hold every day. And that accomplished their objective of being chinsey with the guest. 4. There is almost constant construction all over. This is noisy and starts at 8 a.m. When I noticed this, I called the front desk and said, "If there will be construction in my building please move me." They said, "Oh no, none there during your stay." That was a lie. There was, but by the time it happened again, I didn't move as I couldn't believe anything they said. If they moved me, it could well be to some place that also had construction. The stairs to my room were in disrepair the entire stay, photo attached. A good property would fix that in one day. You might think this would not happen to you if you stay, but it is the kind of thing that will in some form considering management. 5. Due to construction, 70% of the area outside by the bar and restaurant was blocked off and guests were not allowed to go anywhere near it. Had I know that I would have stayed elsewhere. That was one of my favorite parts of the hotel and a wonderful place to have a drink at night. I wouldn't believe anyone from this hotel as to when that will be back to normal. 6. The hotel used to have a great picture of President Eisenhower in the lobby and have a Southwest style. They removed that picture, a favorite of mine, and have redone all the rooms so the hotel rooms now look like a W in New York City or Cleveland. All the charm is gone. 7. On Saturday at the main pool, they played very loud awful rap type music, with lines like, "Get away from me you honkey pig." How charming for what used to be the hotel of the sophisticated. Your only pool escape is the spa pool for which they charge an extra $35 per person. Therefore, if you plan to stay here, in addition to the huge taxes, add to your room rate the $35 resort fee and $35 per day to have some peace at the spa pool. 8. I was able to figure out, and I could tell from body language of a staff member, that this hotel wants only the high paying conventions, such as Google or Apple Computer. They will put up with the hotel internet not working because they have their own secure system. The hotel does not want an individual like me, or a Rockefeller, or anyone who is polite and considerate. Individuals should just stay somewhere else. 9. I am a Platinum level. They don't care. They don't care about any elite level. I could give specifics, but this is long enough already. The one plus I would give them is maid service was rather good and some employees were good. I asked around and Boulders hotel was suggested. Very sad to write this. I used to think often of going back here and relaxing. Now, I doubt I will ever return. Such a shame. The property has great history, but its all gone.

Stayed for the weekend even though we live here. Restaurants here were great we stayed on property the whole time. My girlfriend said the spa was amazing. There were several pools to choose from, we tried them all. Ended up spending the majority of the time in the pool attached to the spa. No kids super quiet and relaxing.

I didn’t get to enjoy every aspect of this resort but I found the hotel, grounds and staff to be spectacular! The setting is stunning and the history of this resort is incredible. I stayed in unit 272 and wish I could have stayed longer. I would not hesitate in returning.

    Terrible is an understatement

We went in the peak of summer when the rush is supposed to be minimal yet they dont have their act together! From the check in to check out it was a disaster. Check in was the slowest possible and then the rooms were nothing great. Expected a lot better in terms of room and was totally disappointed. You expect far more from a J W. The icing on the cake was the check out. When we checked in we were informed that we have $ 50.00 resort credit per room that can be applied to anything in the resort. 2 rooms were in my name and 1 room in my friend's name. In the evening we went to the bar and had drinks and appetizers and i signed the bill to my room. The next day breakfast, supposed to be included, was charged for and again i signed the bill. At check out they charged us for everything saying that the resort credit cannot be combined and every room had to separately sign the checks! So basically they expect you to split every check and drink and food and sign separately! This is insane!! Why cant we just combine it all and pay together. When i asked the lady at check out that are we supposed to ask for split checks each and every time though we are staying together and have made the reservation together - her answer was a simple YES! I thought this is just terrible customer service and the clerk couldn't care less. I dont intend to even go back. It is not a question of 100 bucks or so its just the principle.
