If you are staying at this hotel get a Junior suite since they face the water and are large. The rooms need updating, and they will be doing some renovations later this year which will improve the overall look. Weekends are filled with locals, both at the beach and in the hotel, so don't expect it to be quiet. The food is so-so, but the breakfast is always great sitting outside people watching. I gave it a 5-star for the all inclusive part ... if you don't like the food, there are plenty of restaurants in the area to choose from.

    Ultra convenient locale

By no means upscale but comfortable, view of the town and street below from the balcony, everything you need right outside your front door...shops, cafes, restaurants etc...super locale on beach. plan to stay in beachfront room next time as they have been updated and have ocean views.

Checking it out and got a rude reception

I visit Puerto Vallarta annually and am always looking for interesting hotels. This hotel is on the beach and looked like something I wanted to know about. As soon as I walked into the lobby, I was abruptly stopped and asked if I was a guest. I said no and that I'd like to look at the property for a future stay. He brought me to the manager who was so rude, who didn't listen to my request and waved me away like I was a peasant. Need I say more? What I did see was a dirty lobby, and a small pool with inexpensive plastic furniture around it, all in view from the lobby. There is no parking, and clearly no accommodations for guest inquiries. Mark this: Off My List!

    Be Prepared for Renovations

My review of this hotel was very positive for February 2018. I stayed there again in February 2019. Things are changing and not all for the better. My fifth floor ocean view Junior Suite in 2018 was basic but clean. My second floor ocean view in the renovated tower in 2019 provided many challenges which I put up with because I could get no help from the front desk. The room this year was large, the bed more comfortable and there were promising items to show the upgrade. There was a hook in the shower/bathroom to hang up a coverup or towel. Problem was it was a ceiling height which I could not reach. There were two chairs on the balcony but no table. Asked for a table,, did not happen so I took one from the pool area. There wasn't a comfortable chair in the room so I needed to bring the balcony chair into the room if I did not want to sit on the bed. There was a holder for an iron and ironing board on the wall but it was just an empty holder! For some reason each day around 3pm the smells from the kitchen filled my room I began to hate the smell of fried onions. The room was not clean. I dropped an earring and needed to move the bedside table and found crumbs from snacks of times long ago. The dust clumps under the bed were numerous. The front desk was informed of my findings. All this for more money and aggravation. The hotel renovations are ongoing and some days the noise was deafening. Access to the beach was cut off for a week. The route was through the dining room which caused me no end of problems because I did not have an all inclusive wrist band. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. The renovations will be an ongoing process for at least another year or so. The more they renovate the higher the price. I have found a hotel further down the beach because when I looked into a Junior Suite for 2020, the price in February was double the price that I had paid in 2018 at the San Marino.

My friend and I decided to upgrade to the beach front room....lovely...spectacular...but after 14 years staying at the San Marino in a supreme room facing the street Rodolfo Gomez.....we will be going back in 2020. Love the ambiance of the area. We sit on the beach during the day but love the street life at night!! Best Hotel ever to stay at. Not fancy...but the staff are so incredible!!! From check in to towels to ladies who clean the rooms, to recreation..the staff are the BEST. The food is good, but the servers are awesome. Friends for life?????
