My husband and I stayed here for 9 days for our honeymoon. The first two days upon arriving we were greeted by our host and every morning he found us and told us we had meetings to attend to every day for an hour each. We skipped the first day meeting and made our reservations at the hotel with all restaurants and excursions we wanted. He found us yet again and asked us to follow him to talk to someone ( to sell us something ) and we explained we were on our honeymoon and were trying to get to the beach. He said if we had a hour we would get a free massage if we sat and talked. When we got to the office we were told off the bat we weren’t getting a massage. It was just to try and sell us memberships. Luckily the man who spoke with us was understanding when I explained they were interfering with our honeymoon.we left and never were bothered again. Hotel policy. When we booked this trip, we added the FREE honeymoon package the hotel offers you if you stay more than 3 days and have been married in the last 6 months and proof of marriage. With this package you are supposed to get a photo, breakfast, fruit, room upgrade, champagne and hor d’oeuvres. We checked in Friday afternoon, handed in our marriage certificate and Saturday morning I went down to the front desk to ask when we will be receiving our honeymoon package, they said the champagne and fruit will be delivered Sunday and Monday we will get our breakfast. They sent us to take our photos and handed us two T-shirt’s. The photo shop takes 5-9 pictures and allows you to chose one and gives it to you on a cd. Our room upgrade was from beach to palace and a room that had the view of the fence to the street/ driveway to the streets. Not great. The next morning all the way until Wednesday we still haven’t received any breakfasts or champagne or fruit. I went to the front desk at 1pm Wednesday to ask what happened, they told me they needed a day in advanced to order the stuff I then replied it’s been 4 days !!!!!!! Then I was told it’ll be in the room by 3-4pm. I returned to the desk at 4:30pm and still nothing. A supervisor was notified. My husband and I went to eat dinner and was promised in an hour and a half we will have champagne in the room. On our return we did find fruit and 7% alcohol HOT champagne in the room. The next morning breakfast arrived which was two cups of coffee, two puddings and three croissants. Not much of a honeymoon breakfast if you ask me. Never revived our hors D’oeuvres ! The all inclusive isn’t so much all what it seems. The drinks listed none of the bartenders know how to make and for the simple drink, they were always out of cranberry juice. Their snack bar was always burgers, fries and pizza. In the room they have a safe you can use for $9 a day. We did not use this safe our entire trip and upon checkout they tried to charge us $75 for the safe. Did not use it so we did not pay. All restaurants outside the resort have excellent food but they do include tip in their checks so please look out for this. When you do leave the resort you are instantly harassed by the people from the shops. when shopping for gifts they do raise the prices in the stores. The local bodega was the best place to buy beer and snacks. Super cheap and only a short walk away. And they deliver! We received a note under our door for check out and when we will be picked up at the hotel, when we checked out we asked if the transportation was coming at 2pm and they replied they do not know when they will be here. The coffee made by the bar or lobby is better than self served coffee in buffets. The videos for the excursions are false, they aren’t as they seem. In conclusion, we didn’t feel like the hotel honored their honeymoon package the way they should have. We made the best out of the rest of our trip. Probably wouldn’t stay in this location if we ever returned to DR

I have stayed at many resorts. This is one of the best overall. Th Wi-Fi is better than most, connected everywhere on beach and resort. The service is outstanding, the food is very good similar to cruise food. The resort is located on a great white sand beach. The staff all speak enough English to get by. Use of both connected resorts allows great night life at Villa and quiet relaxing at Palace. Great shower.

The resort itself was nice with lovely gardens. Little town of Dominicus not far from resort.stayed in a garden view Bungalow that was pretty basic. There were 3 of us so we had two double beds. We had a mini fridge, however it was not stocked with anything. You do not have a coffee maker in your room either at least in the bungalows you didn’t! You receive 2 bottles of water in your washroom to brush your teeth with and drink, I am assuming, but as I mentioned there were three of us and it was not until I confronted the maid in person to advise her that there were three persons occupying our bungalow that she left us three bottles of water and three bath towels and hand towels. Also, they are very skimpy on the toilet paper so once again i had to mention to her we need more than one roll of toilet paper for three people or we will be using our hand towels!! We asked for wash cloths but never received them however I am always in the habit of bringing an old one from home as I know that it is hit and miss with receiving wash cloths so I like to have one with me just in case. So all three of us brought our own wash cloths!! Once I tipped the maid we started to receive a larger quantity of water bottles which we kept some of them in our fridge to keep them cold for when we needed a drink! Also started to receive quite a few more towels and rolls of toilet paper! The buffet was just okay. Nothing Special!! The snack bar by the beach was a joke and so was the pizzeria!! They had one guy making pizza for dozens of people. The drinks were awful!! Liquor was watered down and beer on tap was warm most of the time!! If you wanted a COLD PRSEIDENTE BEER you had to buy it! I didn’t book an All- inclusive to have to go the store and buy my beer!! The Mexican al la carte!! This was the best meal that we had! There was so much food so many courses, Quick Service and FRIENDLY WAITERS!!!! Having said that I will go on to tell you that every single waiter, bartender, anyone that you would encounter at this resort was RUDE, AND NASTY AND WOULD INGNORE YOU! (Outside of this Mexican Restaurant) No One cared about you!! The worst Customer Service I have ever encountered and I have been to the Dominican Republic well over a dozen times!!! A horrible Shame!! Even if you said good morning or hello! There was never a response back from them!! We speak a little bit of spanish enough to get by and have never had any problems associating with people in the Dominican republic before, as we travel alot and and have always had the best time dealing with the staff! Even workers that maintain the property! At this resort it just seems that the staff that are employed here are miserable and just do not like their jobs or to converse with the guests! It does not matter whether or not you tip them nothing seems to change!!! There were maybe 3 people we had dealings with that appreciated the tip and were naturally friendly!! We were at the La Roca Pool bar one morning and when the bar opened we went up for a drink only to find no glasses within reach of the guests however there were 3 trays of clean glasses stacked behind the bar but the bartender was too busy talking to another co-worker and ingnored us standing there until my husband called to him politely “Amigo” and then we tried to gesture that we needed a glass to drink as it is a self serve draft pump for beer, water and soft drinks, so all they need to do is provide you with Clean Glasses. It was at that time he angrily looked up and started to mimic us, gesturing back and giving us a dirty look while slowly walking over to the trays of glasses and then slammed down a tray on the counter and walked away! I was horrified of his behaviour and disgusted!! I don’t work hard all year and pay good money to come to a resort to be treated in this manor!! It is totally unacceptable behaviour!! I also noticed there are NEVER any Managers nor Supervisors around anywhere to keep the staff moving along and in line!!! Another thing that was so very unfair and frustrating was trying to get a drink at the main bars. They would not use the first come first serve rule. They would serve whomever they wanted whenever they wanted which would mean you could be standing there waiting for 10-15 minutes or longer for a very small pour that was usually warm (Beer) and that is if they had any available as there were many times they ran out and you had to wait a very long time for them to change the keg!! No one seems to know what they are doing! They are very unorganized and EXTREMELY UNDERSTAFFED, from what we could see! For a Viva Wyndham Chain we were very disappointed. I thought it would have been a much better experience. We attended the 25 al la carte restaurant on the last night before we were leaving.. One of the WORST al la carte restaurants we have ever been in. When we walked in no one was at the podium greeting you. A lady had kept looking at us standing at the front waiting to be seated, yet she ignored us and kept cleaning tables. Never once did she say “I will be with you in one moment” or any attempt at letting us know she will be over. We waited a very long time for her to come over and take our receipt and seat us. She handed us our menus before we even sat down at the table which was very unprofessional!! We sat down and a gentleman came over and gave us water. We looked at the menu for a little while and our waiter walked back over to take our order. He came over and leaned over the empty chair and asked us if we were ready and what we wanted….. AGAIN very unprofessional!! The food WAS NOT good. My daughter could not even eat her steak it was tough and full of grissle and fat. They also don’t give you steak knives…. they give you butter knives…. so good luck trying to cut your food!! We had seen that our waiter had been bringing out pink cocktails to ALL others tables that were seated AFTER US!! Once they sat down he would give them those drinks. When I called our waiter over to ask him what that drink was and if we were suppose to receive one he couldn’t even tell me…. he had to call over to another lady and ask her. She then said it was a cosmopolitan. When my husband and I confronted him and asked were we supposed to receive those? Because everyone else that has come in you have given them one. He then said “oh you want one.”? And put down one that he had LEFTOVER on his tray. Never offered to give my husband or daughter one!!!! When we kept asking him if he was supposed to bring us those in the beginning when we sat down he ignored us and kept talking and laughing with another waitress. VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!! After that encounter he ignored us the rest of the dinner. He never cleared our dinner plates, another waitress had to come over and do so. We waited and waited for our desserts to be brought out and they NEVER arrived so we got up and left! We went to the buffet so my daughter could eat something as she never did eat anything there and was very hungry!! We had great weather the week from April 27th-May 4th It only rained overnight when we were asleep so we did the best to move on and and tried not to dwell too much on the ignorance of our wait staff and we tried the very best to make the most out of our vacation. Would we return there NEVER!!! Would I recommend it NO!!! For the money we paid for this resort I would have expected first class treatment!! This was the very first vacation that we can actually say we couldn’t wait to get home from!!!!!!!

My husband and I booked months in advance a trip to the DR Romana Viva Wyndham Beach resort, as we have been to the same county over 12 times and have always had nothing but great experiences at all the resorts we have stayed in. We had reserved a garden view bungalow with two queen size beds (so our almost two year old would have a place to sleep). Upon arriving to our destination we were told that the hotel was sold out and we would have to wait to the morning. With a baby and no place to go they offered us to stay in an employee room, it was dirty, roaches everywhere a sink being held up with wooden sticks and a small bed with a pad on it. I refused to stay or put our toddler in that situation and asked for a cancellation and refund to go to another resort. They told us that CheapCaribbean booked a slot of rooms per hotel and our room was given to the last reservation as we arrived at 4:30pm and check in was at 3pm. I have never heard of such a thing and was totally hysterical at this point when a manager came to us to tell us they would give us a room when the next person checked out. We had no other choice but to wait for that after traveling for almost 6 hours with a toddler. We were then given a room with a queen size bed and asked if they had a crib or playpen (as many normal resorts do have). They came in with a crib that was falling apart, dirty and told us to us the bedsheets as the cover for the pad. It was the worst resort I have ever seen, after walking to five different restrooms not one had a changing table of the five, two had broken toilets with all kinds of floating things in them. By the evening as we thought it couldn’t get any worse it sure did, as we decided to ask for an iron and an ironing board (as many normal resorts all have one in the room already) they told us they did not know if there was one for us to use. After 2 hours and 15 mins of waiting we finally had someone deliver it to our room. By now to have dinner with a toddler at 9:30 at night what else did we things can go wrong. When we arrive to the main restaurant it was totally a disaster, the ice machines were broken, the soda machines were broken, the serving spoons were missing and people were actually putting their hands into the food to serve themselves. The dollar menu at McDonald’s had more selections than they did, it was a total disaster from the dirty tables to the dirty floors completely understaffed. Meanwhile it’s owned by two of the richest families in the hotel business. Not to mention the snack bar by the pool area that was open during the day time had one person making the pizza, fries and hot dogs all on his own for the 1000 plus people so the food was gone within mins. By the next day we were ready to leave calling the airlines to find out only one seat available the next day and an additional $1,000 spend. If you are looking for a nice, clean and family friendly resort this is definitely not the one.

Beautiful Resort but HORRIBLE food and drinks

The good - beautiful location and facilities. Excursions were amazing! The bad - All of the liquor is off brand and watered down. All of the food is pre-made and warmed up or microwaved. The exception is the snack bar with hamburgers and pizza. The ugly - nobody cares! Horrible customer service. It’s all inclusive so they have no incentive to make anything better. Here’s how to make this place bearable. Just convince yourself that the all inclusive price is a good price for the room only. Forget about the food and liquor. Go outside of the resort to eat and drink. There is a great Italian place down the street. There is a mini mart across the street. Stock up on wine, liquor and beer. Then ask the resort bars for buckets of ice to keep “the good stuff” cold while you’re by the pool. It took us a couple days and many disappointments to grasp this process. But we were determined to not let the awful food and drink ruin this beautiful location. If it weren’t for the beachfront villa we would have left and went somewhere else. I could list a million more bad things but I honestly don’t have the desire to relive the experiences. Good luck!
