    A Very Refreshing Getaway

    First and foremost, beware of bad reviews of this property. It is an amazing place. My husband and I decided 2 weeks before we arrived in Mexico (November 10 - 18) that we needed to get away. We had a wedding planned 2 times for our daughter and both times were cancelled due to Covid19. ( Praise God they did get married in the back yard of their new home back in May) This property is beautiful. A lot of wildlife, very well maintained, great, great, great service. We were told upon arrival that the swim up pool/bar was closed along with the sports bar, disco, gymnasium, and all dinner buffets, and the other half of the resort (Tucan side - closed) Our disappoinment lasted about half a day until we realized that we had this whole place to practically ourselves, We ate ala carte dinners every night. The entertainment was amazing....we saw every show (we were there for 8 nights), the food was very good. ( steak house was the best). We never had to fight for a beach chair or pool chair. What I have come to learn after several trips out of the United States is that people from other countries seem to want the same thing that they have in their own country. If that's what you want then you should choose to vacation in your own country. Please remember that you are choosing to travel to Mexico where they have a different culture than you. You are a guest in their territory. Respect that. We stayed in the 26 building on the 3rd floor. Room was very clean and we asked nicely a few times and got extra beer for our mini bar at no charge. A small tip goes a long way. Throw some 1 and 5 dollar bills around on a daily basis and your vacation will become so much more enjoyable. We saw monkeys outside our room several times. The wildlife roams freely and they love to entertain you. Warning - bring bug spray. It's the Caribbean. We always take chocolate bars on vacation with us and we gave out over 60 of them to the staff. We left a tip for our cleaning person every day. Dont wait to give a tip at the end. You may have a different person every day. Bar tenders were the greatest. Shout out to Samuel at the pool bar. He knew what we were drinking and had it ready for us before we even got to him. Alex was our concierge and he did an outstanding job of scheduling everything that we did. Angel was everywhere. He is a hard working man and remembered us everytime we came in contact with him. Alex (entertainment) was so much fun along with his side kick bingo girl (sorry I Forgot her name) I played Bingo everyday and won 4 out of 7 days. Dont be rude to the vendors on the beach. They are making a living just like you do. Just say No nicely and they will move along. Maybe take a gander at what they have. We bought some nice souveniers at a low price after bargaining with them. The walk into Playa Del Carmen was about a 30 minute walk. (thats taking dip in the ocean every mile or so) We felt very safe there. We went to a sports bar in Playa on Sunday and food and drink and service was good. All workers wore masks. (Tequilla Barrel). My only complaint was the 3 hour tour of the property that we took. We did end up buying a very small vacation package from EGOR to find out when we got home that it was not as it was explained to us by him. We have tried several times to contact someone concerning this with no returned calls or emails. We have disputed that and our credit card company took care of removing it. BEWARE OF THE PROPERTY TOUR. ITS NOT 90 MINUTES.. I also recommend the jet boat / snorkeling excursion. It can be booked though your conceirge. It is through Cancun Adventures.

    2nd Iberostar I’ve been too! So beautiful & service is outstanding. The first person to greet us was Wendy Poot in guest services, she is so amazing, helpful and always happy to see us! We’ll be back!

    Iberostar Quetzal was amazing. Wendy Poot was amazing helping us with our trip and super nice during our stay. We love the animals and jungle type atmosphere at the hotel. Thank you Wendy! We will definitely come back!

    The Iberostar Queztel/Tucan has always been one of my favorite resorts. Unfortunately this has changed and nothing to do with Covid. We had 7 rooms 2 oceanfront and 5 pool view rooms so this was a big family/friends trip for us we planned before Covid hit and decided to still go. Pros; love the jungle environment. Staff super nice and very good service. Beach is still beautiful. Cons; no coffee pots in the room and no room service. At check in we were informed if we drank more then what was provided in a day and wanted more there would be a charge. This is an all- inclusive resort there should be no extra charge aside of if you do a tour or additional services like a spa treatment etc. By cutting these things out we didn't get what we fully paid for. The things Iberostar are doing make no sense and they can't blame it on "Covid" it's just a cheap way of cutting back their cost. The food is not that good at all very basic felt more like cafeteria food at all the buffets. The biggest issue I have is the wild cats in the buffet. I love cats and animals however these cats are spraying people's bags anything u set down by your chair. When we first got there we hit up the buffet after traveling we were all hungry. My son set his pack back down not knowing and a cat sprayed it. During the stay we saw other people get their bags sprayed. During buffet dinner a cat pooped on the floor. Pretty disgusting and a health issue. These poor cats need to be spayed and neutered and sent to a rescue. It's not the animals fault but Iberostar should get this under control big time it's a huge issue. Lastly we had massages at their spa were told one price then at checkout it was over $50 more. I spoke with Grecia Salazar who would not adjust the bill stating the spa was seperate from the resort. It is a huge reflection on the resort. Felt pretty ripped off to say the least but Grecia didn't seem to care and would not give us our money back. The spa lied about the price period. As much as I like the resort feel and location we will try somewhere else. We have stayed at many resorts throughout out the area and this Iberostar multiple times being it was our favorite. Really ashame and the front desk and management don't seem to care. Our conceige Janire was the only one that was super sweet and helpful.

    This resort is split in two. We originally booked for the Tucan side. Unfortunately, no one informed us that they closed that side down and that changed us to Quetzal. We were informed upon check in. The rooms they have in the pictures do not match the rooms we were given. The rooms were very outdated. It was just a lot of misinformation. I understand with the pandemic a lot of things can not remain open but you should inform your guests upon booking. All of the pools were extremely dirty and/or closed. Only about 20% of one of the pools was open and it was really dirty pretty much everyday but 1. Rooms were kept very clean and staff was pretty nice but I don't know if I would go back.
