I had booked the Bilmar for the week of our FL vacation, our first in 4 years. We arrived about 6 PM on Monday and checked in. We were directed to the middle building and told to use the right side security door. It was not a good sign that the security door was standing open when we found it. On the 2nd floor we found our room......with the ice machine right beside it. The room was barely ok. Beds seemed clean but the carpet had stains and 2 sticky spots near the windows. The door allowed light from the hall to shine in on 3 edges. And since we had the ice machine right there.......the area was very well lit. In the bathroom there was a glass block window to the same hallway. When we went to bed that night the room was so brightly lit it was crazy. Closed bathroom door and stuffed towels around the hall door as best we could. Throughout the night people of course used the ice machine and stood and talked in that area. Then the machine would grind and chunk to produce new ice. It was terrible. The "resort" sits right on the street in a series of small shops and strip malls. Uninviting neighborhood. In the morning I told the manager I wanted a complete refund and explained our night. She apologized and offered us the penthouse and a number of incentives to stay. No, thank you. We packed up and headed for St. Petersburg and something nicer. No one should ever be put in that room, let alone customers that booked for a week. We would have paid $966 for a week of this........no way.

Nice hotel. Nothing fancy. The room is clean. Ours had a small fridge a cooktop and a microwave. It also had a small balcony with a spectacular view of the beach and a great location to catch the west coast sunset. The staff is super nice. Special compliment for the young man who checked us in. His name is Will. He could not have been nicer. Older hotel but well maintained. Good value overall.

    Quiet clean and safe

It was an absolute joy to stay here. Even arriving in the rain the staff were sunshine. The gulf view lovely and Sloppy Joes connecting a great fun dining experience. Diverse menu. I plan on staying here again.

OK, so we have been here 4X in the past 6 years. I searched other places, stayed in other places, and Bilmar offers the best value. OK, it aint your 4-5 star resort. BUT, for a total of $175/night (total, including the resort fees), you get sunset views with a balcony on the top 4-6th floor. I stayed multiple times in downtown St Petersburg for >>200$ night and the views just don't compare. You need to spend >400$/night at Vinoy to get the ocean (bay) and sunsets (from a different angle, of course). So, for a short week get-away, if you are OK sinking the reasonable 3K/week, including airfare, and basic restaurant fare the Bilmar is your destination. Don't even look elsewhere. At 5-6K/week, there are more upscale options. Still, not sure they are worth the hustle. The beauty of B: 1)location, location. 2)Staff: very friendly and helpful, really. I don't say it lightly, I am a difficult customer. 3)Basic, very clean functional rooms with unparalleled views

Stayed there for 2 days on Dec 28. Room above the pool with direct view and access of the beach, sort of best of 2 worlds, close to the restaurant, so a bit noisy but did not bother us. Definitely not a place for quiet romantic getaways, lots of families with kids. Room was clean, view was magnificent. Location great right across from restaurants and drug store. People very friendly at check in and all over. Special thanks to the lady cleaning up the laundry room on night of Dec 28, let me back into the exercise room because I was locked out with my iphone inside. There was a problem with safe & internet/TV, maintenance came up almost immediately and fixed the safe problem, came in twice for WiFi/TV problem, good customer service. Will come back if have a chance.
