Please read this review before considering this resort! Where do I begin... my fiance and I were here from January 5 - 12 travelling through Sunwing staying in a Beach Club Ocean View Room (I just learned today that they did not upgrade us and through us in a regular ocean view room). Our flight showed up late and we were able to check-in at the resort and grab supper at the buffet before closing at 9:30 pm. Do not waste your time booking an a la carte, they just serve you the same food in the buffet but you wait an hour+. All of the bars close after or before 6pm (Island Time) except for the Cohiba Bar (terrible service, we were ignored as we speak very little Spanish and every single drink was made entirely different) the pool bar (with disgusting burgers and never any hotdogs- probably for the best) and lastly the mojito bar. I do not have enough humbling words to say about the Bartender/Barista Omar who worked solo at this location. Great young man whom we and another young couple gave all of our gifts to upon leaving. I would only go back in hopes of seeing him again. The beach was nice, however the water equipment shack was open maybe 1.5 days of the 7 we were there. Renting a beach towel... oh my what an experience. Before anyone tells you anything different, here is how you go about this sh*t. First, go to the lady at the far right of the check-in counter, ask to rent a towel. Give her $15 CUC/towel and she will give you a slip. DO NOT LOSE THIS. They will not replace the slip (we know from experience). Take the slip to the beach rental shack with the sailboats outside of it and hope to god it's open. When you checkout they will ask for your towels back, no towels means no refund. By warned that other guests will steal your towel, no lies. The food at this resort was good for us (not picky eaters) but nothing special. There are 3 buffets, the main one in the main building, the ranchon located by the beach volleyball court and the bravo club buffet (wtf is bravo, is that the beach club advertised??) We ate almost all of our meals at the third buffet- much quieter and the lines moved quicker. The wait staff were okay, never great, so definitely not worth tipping. Honestly if you don't know any Spanish, please do not go here. Hardly any of the staff know any English, or pretend very well, so it's easy to get frustrated. Your bedding may get changed once if you're lucky, and forget about getting new towels unless you bribe your maid. On a good note our bed was quite comfortable and we did sleep well. Our room had a coffee maker and never any coffee unless we nagged customer service. Your room will become more moist each day, so get used to being sticky and having wet feet. Our bathroom did not get cleaned once our entire stay and was dirty upon arrival. BTW customer service is located behind a white door in the main lobby and if it feels like you shouldn't go in there, just do it, because that's where they're hiding from the public. Despite the misfortune our biggest complaint was the customer service and lack of care. The Bravo Club members are of now help to anyone and can be seen at any time of day playing beach volleyball or drinking in the Mojito bar disturbing the customers. Do not go to Cuba if you are a prude as every girl's a** is hanging out and most men are in speedo's too. We definitely felt out of place wearing shorts and t-shirts most of our trip. On another note the hotel locked us and other guests out of our room one evening and did not notify us. My fiance walked back to the front desk and after an hour returned with an active room key. Sadly upon talking with other Canadian tourists staying at other resorts, ours was one of the best. Stay away from the Memories! Be Live and the Royalton seem to be safer choices. Just know that there is no such thing as a 5* hotel in Varadero. Labranda is like a 2.5* at best. If you do choose to stay in Varadero, do a couple of excursions and take the $5 CUC bus into the city. The best moments we had on holiday were spent off of the resort experiencing the culture. The townsfolk were much more friendly and approachable than the staff at our resort. Save up and go to Mexico instead.

I stayed in this resort for 2 weeks(dec 29th-January 12th) with my family. It was 5 of us. We got a great rooms, with such an amazing view. The food was amazing, my whole family loved the food. You can never be hungry at Labranda. They have snack bar where you can always get hamburgers and hot dogs( especially if you have kids) and drinks 24/7. The beach was amazing and the staff around us. My room was cleaned every day and the maid Juana was very nice and friendly all the time.Thank you Labranda, see you in April again. ????

    Was less than expected!

We traveled to this resort the first week of Jan, 2020. We read all the reviews that said this resort was updated and many people gave a good review. We were very disappointed in this resort, first off most of the staff did not speak or understand english, which made communication very difficult. The resort was not clean, and the public washrooms were disgusting. I do understand that travelers do leave a mess as well and should be responsible for picking up after themselves, but the staff did not make an effort to clean. Our room was kept clean thanks to our wonderful cleaning lady. The biggest disappointment was the buffet, which had the same food every day, and was not good at all. We went to the buffet as soon as it opened and the food was luke warm at best. I know a lot of people complain about Cuban food, however we have stayed at other resorts in Cuba and the food was not an issue. We tried the Italian restaurant thinking this would be better, this was also a disappointment. Needless to say I lived on a few fruits. The beach was okay, and the only thing I can say positive about this resort was that the Cohiba bartenders were awesome. We have been other 4 star resorts, and this is a 2.5 star at best. NEVER AGAIN.

Good Value and for Varadero close to a 4 star

So 4 star is a little high but its Cuba and I think it deserves more than a 3. Pros: Resort Grounds, Beach, and not noisy and very nice rooms for Cuba Cons: Food is Ok for Cuba but could be so much more by just keeping food hot, all food was constantly cold and even pasta station was being cooked on low. Hot water in rooms was not easy to get but we did manage on half of the days. Staff: Some were amazing some were simply terrible, I would say most entertainment staff like Eillen, Denis, Jose ect were great and dining staff usually not good, no drink offered or utensils on a regular basis. Cohiba Bar staff were also amazing. Weird: There's like a little section for Italians only but some of the activities are shared, for the most part it was ok but one entertainment staff was "stuck up" not italian, get out attitude and should be guests first. Also I ate once in one of the Italian club restaurants and a big difference in quality, so I guess if your not Italian you do not deserve the quality attention? Overall 3.5 but could easily jump to 4 with just a little more service and attention to details like hot food

So I read many reviews of this place before booking our very first trip down south. Some reviews were horrible and others were quite good. My wife, 10-year-old daughter and I have travelled the world but never to an all-inclusive resort. We did lots of research, asked friends and family of their experiences and finally decided to give Labranda in Varadero, Cuba a try. We very much enjoyed our stay. The beaches were beautiful, the room, pools and property were clean. They provided us with hospitality, a variety of food and drink options from multiple locations on the resort, nightly entertainment shows, cheap wifi access, and information on how to see things off resort. It was not crowded, they offered kayaks and sailing outings for free, money exchange was easy and convenient at front desk. Our favorite memories include watching the pelicans dive for fish at the beach, Harry the grounds keeper preparing us a fresh coconut in the mornings, the Spanish coffees from the bar, our daughter getting to dance on stage with the entertainers three nights in a row, the golf cart rides from the main building to the further building where we stayed, swimming in the beautiful, warm, sand-bottom ocean, walking the pathways of expansive property, and getting to meet and relax with both the locals and other visitors. We appreciated the effort of the staff that work there. They work hard. We were never pressured or even asked for a tip, but we tipped often... and they appreciate it. Kuddos to the front desk staff, the grounds keepers, the cleaning staff, the bartenders and the food people. I think people often come to these resorts with too high of expectations... in regards to food, service, rooms and many other things. We saw lots of people complaining, but if they were to step back, take a breath, look at its beauty and learn to appreciate what Cuba is really about and what it has to offer, I think they would have a better experience like we did. Some improvements to consider include extending wifi range to the further accommodations building (we were never able to connect but we didn't care); Having extra staff at front desk when busses of people arrive for check-in (she really did do the best she could!), have a little more variety of snack options between meal sittings. I recommend people book A La Carte service in the morning to get a nice sit down dinner in the evenings like we did. We had Seafood, Italian and Spanish 3-course meals instead of buffet. It was nice. Good job, Labranda... keep trying and keep improving... the effort is showing.
