Celebrating our success
WestJetters take their jobs seriously, but not themselves. We are fun, friendly and caring. WestJet and WestJet Encore have many events that help us celebrate our success throughout the year ranging from profit-share parties to family-friendly events such as WestJet's birthday party, family ski days and our annual holiday parties. We even have a department dedicated to our culture. The award winning CARE (create a remarkable experience) team is responsible for turning our values into experiences and helps to ensure a world-class employment experience that takes care of all WestJetters, and recognizes and rewards our accomplishments.

Diversity and inclusion has a strong foundation embedded within WestJet and WestJet Encore's culture.
As a fundamental principle of employment and recognizing the Canadian Human Rights Act, we recognize that all persons are equal in dignity and human rights without regard to race, religion, colour, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, marital or family status, disability, age or convictions for which a pardon has been granted. We are committed to the legislative requirements and objectives of the Employment Equity Act and report annually to government authorities on the representation of those designated groups within our company. WestJet and WestJet Encore continually explore new and innovative ways to enhance our diversity hiring and talent management initiatives.
In 2012, we signed the Catalyst Accord and renewed WestJet's partnership with Catalyst in 2013, 2014 and 2015 to re-commit our intention and commitment to a balance of qualified men and women working in and leading our airline. Diversity and inclusion at WestJet and WestJet Encore encompasses employment equity, diversity in talent and evolving an inclusive culture. Our ongoing efforts toward evolving diversity and inclusion continue to be the way we do business every day.
The sky is the limit at WestJet—take day-one WestJetters Lisa and Tyson for example. Lisa began her career in 1996 as a Customer Service Agent and worked her way through eight supervisory and management roles to be named the Director of Operations for WestJet Vacations. Tyson also started in 1996 as a Customer Service Agent and progressed through several roles including Flight Attendant and Manager to 2011 when he was named Vice-President People Relations and Inflight, and later Vice-President Inflight, Learning and Development.
WestJetters have the power to set their own objectives within their role. Yearly reviews establish whether goals are being met or exceeded and uncover the potential for growth. We actively hire internal applicants to fill vacant positions and supports WestJetters' development goals.
Enriching the lives of everyone in WestJet's world is something WestJetters take very seriously. Through our Community Investment programs, WestJetters work with charitable organizations across our network to extend our caring culture beyond our aircraft and airport doors into the communities we serve. We positively impact the health and well-being of children and youth by providing the gift of flight to our WestJet Cares for Kids partners. Our WestJetters Caring for our Community program recognizes and celebrates WestJetters volunteerism. And our yearly WestJet Hero Holiday program sends a group of volunteer WestJetters on a 10-day humanitarian trip to the Dominican Republic where they build homes for families living in extreme poverty.
Healthy workers are happy workers. Our Calgary Campus includes fitness facilities and onsite acupuncture, chiropractic, massage and naturopathic services—WestJetters can also book time with visiting dieticians. Our Employee and Family Assistance Program exists to help WestJetters going through difficult personal times as well as career, health and life-balance counselling.
