  3. Balls Plantation

It was once a sugar plantation owned by the Ball family, whose descendants are relatives of the British royal family. In 1976, the Barbados Horticultural Society bought the boiling house of the plantation to be its headquarters. It has since purchased several acres of the plantation to develop an arboretum and gardens. Established in 1927, the society promotes the development of horticulture in Barbados through flower arranging and other training programs. Each year, it hosts the Flower and Garden Show, which showcases flower arrangements from local and international entrants, and an Open Garden Program. It has also been a perennial winner at the renowned Chelsea Flower Show, held each year in England, bringing home gold awards on several occasions. - Marsilyn Browne
