Goran Bergovic was born in Sarajevo in 1950 and has since grown to become one of the most widely known composers from the Balkans. Bergovic's musical love wasn't always centered around composing, though. While he did learn the violin at a music school from an early age, he was kicked out of the school because he was deemed untalented. He then began playing the guitar and bass, and started performing in various rock bands. This concentration on short song structure and frenetic instrumental solos ingrained itself into Bergovic's subconscious. After one of his bands broke up, Bergovic starting scoring films in 1977 and his work was met with great acclaim, helping parlay into a career leading wedding and funeral orchestras. The depth of instrumentation and the command of being a maestro sparked a strong interest in Bregovic and soon he was writing compositions that blended classical music with traditional Balkan. By mixing these two styles, he was able to attain a high level of popularity amongst music connoisseurs and since then his notoriety has only grown.
