A sacred Mayan temple, these ancient ruins on Isla Mujeres offer a glimpse into the past. The temple honored the moon and fertility goddess, Ixchel and served as a revered pilgrimage site for Mayan women. It sits on the southernmost tip of the island and is the most easterly point in Mexico. Overlooking the ocean, today the site offers walking paths accessible for a nominal fee that allows visitors to take in the views, watch the wild iguanas scamper over rocks and observe an ancient landmark.
