Colorado State Capitol Building

While the gilded dome of this building may attract the attention of visitors, the history and stunning architectural features inside holds their real interest. The capitol stands exactly one mile above sea level, and there are actually three different one mile markers on the steps from the three different times the elevation has been re-measured. The majestic dome rises to 180 feet (55 m), and is gilded with gold leaf representing the Colorado gold rush. Stained glass windows inside depict famous scenes from Colorado's history.
