Marcus Jamal Hopson is a rapper and producer from Los Angeles who is known simply as Hopsin. After dropping out of high school in the mid-2000s to pursue a career in music, he was signed to Ruthless Records and released his debut album, Gazing at the Moonlight, in 2009, with little promotion or support from the label. Hopsin decided to drop the Ruthless and start his own imprint, Funk Volume, allowing himself creative freedom to release his sophomore record, Raw, in 2010. With a video for the single "Sag My Pants," a song that pokes fun at the stereotypical hip-hop image or rappers such as Lil Wayne and Drake, he broke into a mainstream audience and was recognized as one of the rising voices in rap music.
