Born in the northern Germany town of Kiel, Ulrich Schnauss is an electronic music producer who creates ambient drum and bass music with a wide range of influences. Early on in his career he would release music under various monikers, such as View to the Future and Ethereal 77, but eventually released his first album under his birth name in 2001 titled, Far Away Trains Passing By. The record became an instant darling in the electronic music scene in Berlin, where he relocated to in 1996, with its rich instrumentation and elegant composition. His sound evolved with each release, including 2003's A Strangely Isolated Place, which was colored with his indie rock influences.
