Outdoor Activities

This preserve was the first ever aquatic preserve designated by the state of Florida as protected in 1966. Since then, it has formally received thousands of visitors into the estuaries and mangrove swamps. The park offers plenty of activities such as boating, kayaking, wildlife viewing and a glut of meandering swamp trails. During the wet season (typically summer), the trails are often muddy and/or flooded, so bring proper footwear and as always, since this is Southwest Florida, bring plenty of insect repellent.
