Hailing from Dundee, Scotland, Average White Band is a six-piece outfit that has collected a dedicated following with its funky brand of soul. Formed in the early 1970s, the band harnessed a distinctive, blue-eyed soul sound powered by Memphis, Detroit and Philadelphia funk from the 1960s. After playing a breakthrough set in support of Eric Clapton in 1973, Average White Band relocated to New York and signed to Atlantic Records, who released its debut album, Show Your Hand. The group went on to enjoy a successful decade in the the US, releasing its most renowned tune, “Pick Up The Pieces” in 1975 as the lead single off of its sophomore LP, AWB, before breaking up in 1982. With a rejuvenated lineup, the band reunited in 1989 and has since continued to perform and release music.
