With a career that spans half a century The Spinners is an R&B and soul vocal group from Detroit that is best known for its hits from the 1970s. The band released its debut album The Original Spinners in 1967 with Motown Records before, signing with Atlantic and kicking off a period of commercial success. Led by co-lead singers Bobby Smith and newly added member Philippé Wynne, The Spinners recorded its first top ten hit "I'll Be Around" featured on its 1993 album Spinners, the first of three consecutive number one albums. Though the group had minor hits for the remainder of the decade after Wynne left in 1977, his departure marked the golden years for The Spinners. The 1983 saw the release of the band's last Billboard Hot 100 track, a cover of Willie nelson's "funny How Time Slips Away," but the group continues to tour the US with two of the band's surviving original members, keeping the soul of the 1970s alive for a new generation of fans.
