Costa Rica is among the handful of sovereign countries in the world without armed forces after dissolving its army in 1949. Museo de Guanacaste highlights the military abolishment through the works of regional and national artists and cultural festivals. Set in the former barracks of the military, this imposing structure was also the armory and army headquarters.
