George Winstone (alto sax) Charlie Stacey (piano) Mikele Montolli (bass) Jamie Murray (drums). Door/food 7.0 pm, music 8.30. Students £12 (see note below).

Depping at short notice for a visa-deprived Dave Drake last January, brilliant young pianist Charlie Stacey was the first Verdict performer ever to receive an instant, room-wide standing ovation after his two dazzling trio sets. Charlie first appeared on the BBC's One Show aged just 13, followed by spells with NYJO and Tomorrow's Warriors and reaching the semi-finals of the Montreux Festival piano competition. Tonight he returns to the club by public demand, this time introducing co-prodigy George Winstone (23) on alto sax. * "This group looks to cut up the boring, under-nourished, vacuous academic space that jazz is in peril of drifting into. George creates a sound incorporating all of his influences but allowing the music to be made by the musicians themselves, exploring all their available options. He plans to record a debut album this year." - Ronnie Scott's
