Queen Latifa is a singer/songwriter, comedian, rapper and actress who has enjoyed success in all areas of entertainment. Born and raised in New Jersey, she began her career in the late 1980s as a beat boxer for the hip-hop group Ladies Fresh and an original member DJ King Gemini's MC group Flavor Unit. She released her first single "Wrath of My Madness" 1988, signed with Tommy Boy Records soon after and dropped her debut rap album All Hail the Queen, in 1989. After the release of her 1998 album Order In the Court, she shifted from hip-hop to soul and jazz and dropped an album of jazz standards called The Dana Owens Album, in 2004. Queen Latifa began her film career in 1991 with minor roles, though eventually earned critical acclaim with a starring role in the 2002 Oscar-winning film adaptation of Chicago. She continues appear in her won feature roles while also releasing records such as her 2009 studio album, Persona.
