Virtuoso pianist Daniel Barenboim was born in Argentina, where he began giving concerts at the tender age of 5. In the early fifties, he began recording many of the most important piano pieces in existence, including sonata & concerto cycles by Mozart, Beethoven, & Brahms. He is a conductor in addition to being a pianist, and works with an orchestra of Arab & Jewish youth. He is also known for his political activism for Palestine, and for his intensive friendship with scholar Edward Said.
