Museums & Galleries

Before you start your excursion through the city, a visit to Merida's City Museum is recommended to gain some context. Mérida has an interesting, historical past, and the museum tries to cover most of it. There are over 150 permanent exhibits here, these are neatly arranged in four rooms. Mayan history and its accounts are a part of one of the four rooms, while the other room gives you a description of influences that Spanish colonization had on the city. Another room covers the impact that the 19th Century had on the city, educational reforms and politics are some of the many important topics covered here. The last room narrates a more recent tale of the city's progress and achievements in the field of culture, sports, etc.
