Built between 1904 through 1911, Palacio Canton was the home of General Francisco Canton Rosado, the then governor of Yucatan. This splendid Beaux Arts style building was designed by an Italian architect. The attention to detailing can be seen in every aspect of this majestic building. Right from its Doric columns to the plasterwork, marbles, ceiling works and gardens. After the Canton family sold it to the government in 1932, it was used as the base of the School of Fine Arts, an elementary school, governor's house and finally the Regional Museum of Anthropology of Yucatan. Even if you are not visiting the reputed museum, this beauteous structure is worth a look and to behold as it has been a pride of Mérida for more than a century now.
