Petitcodiac River is known for its tidal bore. This meandering river winds through 79 kilometers (49 miles) across villages and major towns like Moncton and Dieppe. Forming an important backdrop through these communities, it is also known as Chocolate River due to its brownish tint caused by heavy sedimentation. In Moncton, the river has a bow-shaped bend. The Riverfront Park offers several trails connecting Dieppe and Riverview following the course of the river. See the phenomenal tidal bore which happens daily twice. You can find the information of the times at the visitor center next to Bore View Park. The banks of the river were the settlements of Canadian Aboriginals and holds historic value in the region.
