Get to know the history and culture of Nanaimo at Nanaimo Museum. Though not a big museum, it sure packs in a lot through its exhibits. The main hall is gives an insight of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, the first settlers of the city. Check out the coal mine display where you will know what it is like beneath the earth's surface. During the 19th Century, the town was known for its coal and a outpost called the Bastion was built by the Hudson's Bay Company. It is still an attraction and is operated by the museum.
