Museums & Galleries

Opened in 1982, this thoroughly enjoyable museum houses an impressive collection of Dominican amber, a fossilized translucent resin made by extinct coniferous trees. Amber is known to travel down the sides of trees, resulting in trapped and preserved plants and insects. There are thousands of pieces on display at the Amber Museum, including one in which there is a 40 centimeter lizard. Another notable display is of a series of amber tubes that resemble the needles of coniferous trees. The gift shop at the amber museum sells beautiful amber jewelry. Find something to remember your trip by or take the opportunity to find souvenirs.
