Practical Information

San Pedro Evangelical Church, La Churcha or Dominican Evangelical Church is a historic structure in the city and is probably the only one left of its era. It is said that over a hundred piece of wooden parts for the church were imported by Narcissus Miller, an English missionary from England in the 19th Century. It was reassembled by the African-American slaves who were shipwrecked in Samaná while fleeing from Philadelphia. It became the spiritual home of their freed slaves. During 1946, a major fire almost destroyed the town's Victorian buildings and wooden structures, this was the only one that was untouched.
