Coronado is frequently lauded as the best golf bargain in California, if not the entire U.S. West Coast. Even Golf Digest ranked it as one of its 2010 "Pearls of Value."

But it's the scenery here that makes Coronado special. Against the shores of San Diego Bay, the city skyline, the Coronado Bay Bridge and the Hotel Del Coronado are all featured prominently.

Back in 1957, architect Jack Daray designed a straightforward, what-you-see-is-what-you-get layout. The golf course was later tweaked by his son in 1966 and again in 1997. It measures 6,600 yards from the tips, and costs roughly US$20-US$50 to play - that is, if you can get a tee time.
