Located in the easternmost part in Canada, Cape Spear Lighthouse is one of the oldest remaining lighthouses in Newfoundland. It is also among the first to be built in the province, second only to the lighthouse at Fort Amherst. Cape Spear Lighthouse was built in 1836 and sits on a cliff overlooking the Avalon Peninsula. Visitors may see humpback whales from the National Historic Site's spectacular vantage point.
