Outdoor Activities

Designated a National Historic Site of Canada, Kitselas Canyon is both a natural wonder and an important location for the Kitselas peoples. The Kitselas, which means "people of the canyon" in the Tismshian language of Sm'algyax, resided in the canyon for over 5,000 years. In particular, the Raven, Eagle, and Killer Whale clans made their homes on the banks of the Skeena river, which runs through the canyon. Today, visitors can learn about the clans while walking along an interpretive trail. Other activities, like fishing and hiking, are also popular.
