Practical Information

La Catedral San Carlos De Borromeo dates back to the 19th century, though work began to build it in the late 17th Century. It has over the centuries undergone several renovations, however it fell under disrepair in the 20th Century and went through an extensive renovation for eight years. You will still see some bits worn out. But nevertheless, it is a landmark and a majestic place of worship. It became a cathedral in 1912 and is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Matanzas. The cathedral is said to be among the finest examples of Cuban eclecticism architecture.
