Museums & Galleries

One of the oldest houses in the province to remain in its original location, Helmcken House is a popular feature of the Royal BC Museum. It was built in 1852 by Dr. Sebastian Helmcken, first president of the Canadian Medical Association, enabling visitors to see what life was like in Victoria in the mid-19th century. In addition to antique furniture, the museum and historic landmark displays surgical instruments used by Helmcken himself. Adjacent to Thunderbird Park and near to downtown Victoria, you'll love what awaits outside this venerable structure as much as what's inside. Admission to Helmcken House is included when you purchase tickets to the Royal BC Museum. Donations are also accepted.
