Stayed at SMB the first week of April. We have over 30 years of tropical travel experience. This week at the resort left us feeling slighted of a vacation. After not getting the top floor of the room category we requested things only got worse from there. (we booked this trip 14 months prior and it was our 5th time to a Sandals???!!!) We realize requests are not guaranteed, but loyalty is Sandals slogan!! (come on now) . They tried to move us to a top floor room at the far end of the building which only insulted us further because it overlooked the parking lot, airport and a large construction project. (what a joke) Needless to say we declined this room and stayed in the original room, which was next door to the designated room for all resort guests being tested for COVID. Next, we are early risers and never thought getting a beach chair would be an issue/boy were we wrong. The butlers would be out on the beach the night before and super early mornings (@530 am) throwing multiple towels on as many chairs as possible to reserve for their assigned guests. (let me add that we are low maintenance guests - just like to beach it / hang by the pool, walk the beach and read our book) We were forced to "stress" about getting out onto the beach early and still never got a good position on the beach. During our stay I overheard several guests complaining to staff about this beach chair problem. People's trash, empty plates and cups and old towels were constantly everywhere. It just seemed that every move we made was met with resistance - we sat down for lunch and the first words out of the servers mouth were "the food is going to take a while because a lot of people just ordered" - there were not enough servers at breakfast. (the buffet was not self serve) the food selection was at about 40%. There was a lack of bottled water/ constantly having to ask for more rather than give us a few extra. To sum it up the staff here have no issues with saying NO! We do have to give a shout out to Latoni in the coffee shop. She was a 5 STAR staff member. She went above and beyond. Christopher did his best checking on us to soothe the sour taste of this trip. We went into this trip thinking we would book Sandals Bahamas for next year, but we are not booking a Sandals ever again unless we are made aware of Sandals making some serious positive changes.

My husband and I decided to book Sandals Montego Bay for our honeymoon after reading reviews on most of the Sandals properties, and seeing that most Sandals "regulars" agree that the best service from the staff comes from Montego Bay. We booked the Crystal Lagoon Swim-up Club Elite Luxury Room w Patio Tranquility Soaking Tub (SLX) and decided that we would compromise the beach view for the swim-up pool. Arriving: From the moment we arrived, we were treated like we were VIP guests. We used Club Mobay to help get through customs, and since we had a club level room we received a private BMW transport from the airport to the resort. Things to know from this experience: - With Covid, Club Mobay was not very necessary when arriving, but I was glad to have it on the way home. - I wish we would have thought to bring bills smaller than $20 for tips. We had to tip the Club Mobay attendant, person who handled our luggage, and the private transport before even getting to the resort. Make sure to have lots of $5 or $10 bills! -Private transport or shuttle, the resort is only 10 minutes from the airport so safety never felt like a concern for us. We felt safe at the resort the entire time including when we arrived and left. Room: We absolutely LOVED our room. Nice size bedroom and bathroom, along with a patio with privacy curtains to close off from the swim-up pool to use the soaking tub. The soaking tub is absolutely massive. Easily fits two people and fills up very quickly. The swim-up patio included two chairs to layout and two pool floats that must stay in the pool. The best part about the swim-up pools in this building is that the servers from the main pool at the piano bar will walk over to our location and bring us specialty drinks from the bar if we want something different than what is already stocked in the room. Our room was stocked with 5 types of liquor, champagne, wine, Red Strip, soft drinks, water, and juices. At one point our AC did go out, but it was a quick call to maintenance and they were able to have it fixed very quickly. Our room came with room service from 7am-10pm and usually took about an hour to arrive after ordering. Since this isn't a beachfront room, it was a little bit of a walk to the beach and the main lobby, but nothing too extreme. However, it did make us realize that we would prefer a beachfront room opposed to a swim-up next year. Restaurants: There are 4 restaurants on the property that require dinner reservations, and the rest open at 5:30 for open seating. Our very favorite restaurant was called Soy, the sushi restaurant. This did not require a reservation and the sushi was absolutely delicious. Butch's Steakhouse seems to be a favorite for many couples, so we had high expectations that were unfortunately not met due to bad service. It's important to note this is the ONLY place we received service less than outstanding throughout the entire trip. Butch's does require a reservation and if you have a club level room or higher, they will make the reservation for you. Oleander Room also requires a reservation and is delicious. My husband got the Halibut and I got the signature dish of Pork Cutlets that were so good. Cucina Romana is the Italian restaurant that requires a reservation, and it is also very delicious. My absolute favorite drink was their signature martini, the Amaretto Lemon Drop. This drink is a MUST. Stewfish was the shoes optional restaurant directly on the beach and it was good, but not great. This restaurant requires a reservation and based on our entrees, it wasn't too much to write home about. Tokyo Jo's is a stir-fry place that doesn't require a reservation and it is delicious. You can get as much seafood added into your rice as you wish! Excursions: We decided to do the day time catamaran booze cruise and that was definitely a party. We left the resort around 10am to a nice spot outside of Margaritaville for 45 minutes of snorkeling. After the snorkeling, we went to Margaritaville for 45 minutes and had a booze cruise party on the way home. We enjoyed this so much that we decided to book the sunset catamaran cruise for the next day. This cruise was definitely more of a romantic vibe instead of a party vibe, but was still extremely enjoyable. There were no stops on this cruise, but we went closer to the coast to see the nice houses while the staff was giving us history on the area. Lastly, we rented a cabana from 8am-5pm one day. This came with breakfast waiting on us when we arrived, and a butler to take care of our food and drink needs for the rest of the day. We enjoyed this very much and have every intention of booking again when we return next year. Not exactly an excursion, but the provided entertainment from the resort was an absolute hit. They have themed nights such as Jamaican night, Reggae night, and a silent disco party. We attended most nights and had an absolute blast. This was a great chance to mingle with other couples at the resort and let loose. The bar staff was incredible during these parties and only added to the overall experience. My FAVORITE "excursion" was our private, candlelight dinner. This was so romantic and excluded from everyone else with an amazing view. I ordered the lamb chops and they were to die for. I would highly suggest adding this to your trip! Overall experience: We enjoyed our honeymoon so much that we rebooked for our one year anniversary while we were onsite. When you book onsite you receive an additional 12% off so it was definitely worth doing. My main advise would be to make sure you have small bills for tipping as you arrive/leave the resort, even though tipping on the resort is not allowed. It is also encouraged to get to the beach early so you can pick out your chairs if you do not have a butler. If you have a butler, they can reserve seats for you early in the morning or the night before so it makes seating limited in the popular areas. If you're looking for a party environment, definitely do the booze cruise catamaran. We felt safe the entire time, even when participating in the offsite excursions. Lastly, eat and drink everything! You pay for an all inclusive for a reason. If you want to try more than one entrée, then order more than one entrée and portion sizes for appetizers are small so you will definitely want to order more than one of those. I hope this has been helpful!

We had an amazing 25 th anniversary trip. Our butlers, Carleen and Palmer were wonderful and did so many special things for us. The beach was beautiful. The food was great too. I would definitely recommend this resort. The night time entertainment was pretty good. The daytime entertainment crew did a good job getting the guests to participate. The grounds were very well maintained.

After 4 re-scheduled bookings, FINALLY, we put 2 bookings together and jetted back to Jamaica to celebrate our birthdays, anniversary and semi-retirement all at one time! Arrival at Sangster's was quick and easy with our host from ClubMoBay who met us singing "Happy Birthday" whisked us through Customs and Immigration and delivered us to the Sandals lounge. Oh, to be here again! Our private BMW was ready and we arrived at SMB within a few minutes. Once out of the car, sanitized and temp checked, we breathed a sigh of relief when we saw Carl Beviere and Carla from Loyalty and Travel. Even though masked, seeing the expression in their eyes let us know that we were home again! This would be our 5th and 6th stays at Sandals Montego Bay in the last 3 years and after a year of sitting on our sofa in the family room with views of our backyard, looking through the open air lobby out onto Montego Bay filled me with emotion I had bottled up for way too long! I could breath! Danesha, 1/2 of the "dynamic duo"butler team (Asha and Danesha), met us in Club Sandals and escorted us to the Poinciana building to what has become "our room" on the top floor. The bed was decorated on arrival with light snacks and a chilled bottle of champagne welcomed us home! Knowing we were with family again made us feel safe and blessed! Eager to get settled, we enjoyed a toast (or 2), then headed over to the Jerk Shack for some Fish in Foil and Jerk Chicken for lunch. The weather was beautiful and the sun was shining brightly as we made our way out to Latitudes, the over the water bar. We both decided on Jamaican Smiles. Why not? We were in Jamaica with big, big smiles! I took a look at the bartender's nametag and almost freaked!!! Then I heard his voice and I knew without seeing his face, that this was someone who helped pull me through the many weeks of the pandemic with his YouTube "Drink Making" videos on the Sandals facebook page! I almost cried, but thanked him profusely for the impact he had on my personal mental health during the past year. In case you don't know who I am talking about, I finally met RAJIV!!! So warm and kind and welcoming, too! Upon returning to our room, we were greeted by the other 1/2 of the "dynamic duo" butler team, Asha. First off, I missed both of them so much and although I could not hug them like always, knowing we were back together again filled me with a sense of peace. Dinner on our first night is always at Stewfish, it's a tradition. We love to feel the sand under our feet, listen to the sounds of MoBay, enjoy some tasty food and drink champagne. Called it a night and went back to sit on our balcony, enjoy some butler treats and drink some more champagne and toast each other. We made it!!!!!!! First breakfast the next morning was at Cucina Romana and, as it usually is on our stay and it was delicious with great service. Headed down to our loungers on the beach, with our cooler of cold drinks waiting for us and Bob Marley music in the background and started our day just like we would start every one for the next 13 days. It felt like no time had passed! A few things. Butler service or not... Well, there are several options for room categories and several options within each category. Many choices and they are there for a reason. Not everyone who vacations wants the same for themselves! We have stayed in the same room category on every stay, the B1B/HB1B, and the room comes with Butler Elite service. We have gotten the room on the 777 deal on 5 of 6 stays. Together with our Loyalty & Travel and Military discounts, we save lots of money so we can afford to book it. In fact, when I booked our first stay in 2018, the Club room I had booked was only a few hundred of dollars less than what we ended up paying for our butler room. So, a tip, check for the 777 every Wednesday and jump on it if you see your room! We have now become accustomed to the butler level of service. What we love about it, let me count the ways! Namely, surprises, treats, baths, loungers, MORE surprises, MORE treats, dinner reservations and on this vacation, our butler team chose a day to surprise us with the "celebrating everything" festivities. The day began with a private breakfast out on the Latitudes bar, continued with an intimate gathering of special friends at lunch and a special dinner at Butch's. Asha and Danesha kept us in suspense for a week and the day was totally unexpected, but was a memory-maker for sure! Butler service, especially with this amazing team, for us, takes our vacation (s) to a whole other level and we enjoy every aspect of it! No apologies! It's a choice that we have made since our first stay at SMB whenever we stay at any Sandals resort now. To each, their own! Most days for lunch, our butlers either surprised us (WOW! Those surprises!) or would take our order and serve us at our beach spot. Loungers are socially distant and with the occupancy rate a little less than 80%, we never felt unsafe. Beach days were decadent as we sipped chilled champagne; fun as we listened to the music playing in the background, refreshing as we hung out on the floats in MoBay and relaxing while reading a great book. Many guests enjoyed volleyball and other activities with the Playmakers. Beach beverage service began around 10 AM and most days, servers and/or managers would come by with a tray full of the special "drink of the day." "Peta-Gay, one of the beach servers, would stop by everyday to check in and say hello. I don't know all of their names, but these ladies walked that beach all day in the hot sun, wearing masks, and were always so kind and thoughtful. I had read a recent review that was critical of beach service, but I can say for the 2 weeks we were there, if, as a guest, you didn't have a drink in your hand, it wasn't for their lack of service! So, let me talk about masks and other safety protocols in the wake of Covid. The staff wear masks everywhere at all times! No exceptions! Guests are not required to wear masks in public areas; however, it is requested that guests wear masks in confined spaces such as the resort and photo shops, Loyalty and Travel office and Cafe de Paris. Rarely did I see guests ignoring this request, but when I did it was in the tiny Cafe de Paris. Come on people! The staff wear masks daily for 8-10 hours a day, in the heat, small spaces, as they work around the grounds, etc. How about showing some respect. I digress! As for other safety protocols, there are sanitizing stations EVERYWHERE! The staff remind us to sanitize before being seated at a restaurant and when we are seated, the tables are social-distant. The buffet breakfast at Bayside restaurant has changed a bit in that it is not self-service, but rather a staff member serves your food as you proceed through the buffet selections. I was so excited when the Zumex machine appeared one morning. I love freshly-squeezed OJ. I drink several glasses every morning, usually, so that I can be prepared for c'mon, you know...for when I start drinking my champagne!!!!! It lasted 2, maybe 3 days, but then disappeared. Not sure why, but perhaps, it had to do with difficulty with maintaining safety measures. I adjusted, reluctantly, though. I was going to request that my butler bring it to my room. It would have been more healthy for me to drink more OJ and less champagne! Oh hey, I'm on vacation! BTW, your room has sanitizing items in the bathroom and replenished, as needed. Speaking of sanitizing the room, on this vacation, just like all of the others, Monique, was our room attendant. Seeing her smiling eyes and hearing her welcoming voice just made our celebration vacation an even better one! She takes such pride in her work, so warm and pleasant and yet so professional. Our room was immaculately clean every single day, either when Monique took care of it, or when one of her colleagues covered her when she was off. Housekeeping staff rock! Warm, kind, personable, welcoming are attributes I associate with every single staff member we encountered at SMB! Every single one! They even expressed thankfulness to us for returning to Jamaica. They work tirelessly for long hours and yet, they treat every guest as if they were the only one! Their uplifting moods are infectious! So, let's talk bars, now. We had the pleasure of getting to see some of the bartenders that we had met on other stays, Dwayne @ Palms and Stephan @Main lobby and Terry-Ann @ Beach bar but we got to meet and spend time with Damien, Naseen, Nicholas, Leonardo, Demourn and Marlon on this vacation. Loved spending time with all of them! One of them would make my chocolate martini(s). I love to take photos of everything! The grounds, the sunsets, the water, the room BUT my most favorite is to take photos of the staff. The staff @SMB for my husband and me, is the main reason we return again and again to SMB. We had great service at dinner Marshante (?) and Briannaha at Cucina, Carletta at Oleander, Renaldo at Butch's and especially Nicky @ Butch's. She was our server twice during this vacation. During the day, as she walked the beach she would always check on us and stop for a brief chat. Dinners at each restaurant were always enjoyable! Some we liked better than others, but when you are eating 14 days at restaurants, that is to be expected. Let me say, I gained 8 lbs!!! During our 2 week stay, we hit all restaurants, at least once and even took the shuttle to SRC to have dinner at Bombay with a good friend of ours who works there. Due to the curfew, he called us a taxi for our return to SMB. We attended both SSG dinners. We attend them only at SMB because we love all of the staff in Loyalty and Travel, the dinner is a bit different AND, our dear friend, Shyam Moses is the entertainer. We have known him for years from another resort, but now get to see him at SMB. We actually preferred the dinner as it was this time. We sat at a table for two and enjoyed listening to our friend. It was like a private concert! So, the staff in Loyalty and Travel. I love this team! We have gotten to know most of the staff during our prior stays, but our personal favorite is Kerri-ann. One of the L&T staff referred to us as "Kerri-ann's Mom and Dad". She has our hearts! We were excited to reach Diamond level during our second week and the Loyalty and Travel staff cheered us on as we received our pins. They are such a special group and they keep us coming back! One of the many reasons, I love SMB is the landscaping and grounds. They are breathtaking! I also love the trendy new buildings, but also the classic charm of the "flagship" resort. I love to take a morning walk on the path in the back of the resort and enjoy the beautiful foliage and well-maintained grounds. It makes me feel so relaxed and happy and grateful for another day in life and paradise! I enjoy the calm, the quietness of just being alone by taking it all in. One day, I decided to surprise my husband with coffee and crepes from Cafe de Paris for breakfast. I strolled on down and placed my order and then realized that I couldn't carry everything back to our room. No worries! Christopher to the rescue!!! Suddenly, he appeared in the Cafe to say "good morning" and he offered to escort me back to my room and carry the coffees. My husband was surprised to open the door to see the 2 of us standing there! I already miss my crepe and Alexander Freezes from the Cafe! Moving onto evening entertainment, I am. Actually, we thought that the entertainment was better than we have experienced during prior stays. Due to pandemic, the Playmakers provided the evening entertainment. It was great! They are so talented and enjoyed every show. Showtime with the Playmakers drew many guests; I think more than they usually do! I was not a fan of some of the evening entertainment in the past, like the comedian. We loved going over to SRC for their evening entertainment. The Living Room got crowded some nights so we would move to a more isolated spot or head back to the room. Some nights, the DJ would spin tunes and the bartenders in the Lobby bar would dance/sing and even my husband and I got up to dance one evening when it wasn't crowded. Another night I had so much fun dancing with a new friend that I had "met" on the facebook page. We did not go to the Piano Bar on this stay. Josh wasn't there, anyway. He's my favorite! Speaking of DJs. During 2020, when we were all on lockdown, every Wednesday on the Sandals Select facebook page, DJ Bryan would spin tunes. I would wrap up early from work (from my sofa), grab a glass of wine and tune in. DJ Bryan would take requests and those of us in facebook land would sing and dance and forget about life for awhile. He was a lifesaver! Every week and any other time, he would spin the tunes, I would be on and actively participate requesting "Reggae Nights" or Third World. I met new friends and I felt normal. He knew we were coming to SMB and much to my amazement (another SMB surprise), he stopped by to meet us! He was just as sweet, kind and thoughtful as I knew he would be. Thank you, again, DJ Bryan! Covid re-test 3 days prior to departure....in 13 days, no rain, not a drop. They day of our testing, we had a heavy, I mean really heavy rainstorm! We waded on over and had our testing done. It was quick and easy. Results were immediate. Well, I hope you enjoyed our journey to paradise! We certainly did! Asha and Danesha, you are the best!!! We are so happy to have had the honor to be taken care of by the two of you! You did not miss a beat! You exceeded our expectations again and again! We love you both so much! Carl and Anna-Kay, thank you for all that you do for all of your guests, You and your staff kept us safe and yet, in every way, we never felt that any time had passed, that 2020 never happened. Thank you to all the staff at SMB! You gave us the time of our lives!!!!! See you again soon!

To begin, travel right now has so many questions before leaving home which Jamaica and Sandals made easy and comfortable to work with. They set up reasonable protocols and went out of their way to assist visitors and make us feel welcome, protecting them and us in the process. This said, Sandals Montego Bay has good food, fun entertainment, and easy access to enjoying some sun, diving, sailing, and more. It is not a large resort so there is easy access to restaurants and activities. Spread along a beach with pool bars, over-the-water bar and a Jerk Shak are opportunities to play beach volleyball, listen to music, float on the warm Caribbean waters and we did it all. There were a few concerns during our trip. Each one was met with a quick response and resolution as quickly as possible. The staff always went out of their way to be polite and helpful and many remembered who we were with ease. All of this added up to more of our time spent enjoying Jamaica and looking forward to returning. If you want to travel, now is the time- Jamaica is a great place to try!
