This was our 3rd time to this resort in 4 yrs. We are Unlimited Vacation Club members and visited Secrets in Cabo last year. So its been 2 yrs since we have been here. Wouldn't you know it - we arrive at the pool side and immediately we get a huge hug from "David". More on David in a bit... We then go to the Market Cafe (buffet restaurant) and immediately have one of our favourite servers, "Raul" give us big hugs as he recognized us immediately. So all in all, our vacation started out as if we are coming back for a family visit. We loved it. What made this trip the best one yet was this sense that all the staff, no matter what their job, have really seemed to gel together and upped their game. The grounds were immaculately kept, all the moving parts to taking down and setting up various venues was quick and seamless, and the friendliness/hospitality of the staff was incredible. Always asking if we needed anything, was everything ok, how was our day, good to see you...etc etc. Amazing. The food was amazing as always. There is now a Casino on sight instead of the night club, which was a great move by management. The entertainment was exactly that...entertaining. The "Black Sheep" band, which was the main performer all week, was awesome...from 80's tunes to hard rock. Our room was on the 10th floor, as we requested the higher the better, which they accommodated for us. As always, the rooms were spacious, really nice, and the cleaning staff are on their A game. We rented the VIP Cabana for one day and we highly, highly recommend it. It can have up to 8 people in it, so if you are there with a couple or two, you can share the cost ($300 USD for the day). It is well worth it. As are the beach side beds ($65 USD/day or free when you buy a $100 USD of liquor). Now to our favourite staff, or should I stay, staff that stood out above and beyond the usual good service... 1) David - Pool/Cabana/Beds Manager for Now/Secrets Cool story... In 2017 & 2018 he was our favourite beach server. Hard working, friendly, and always on his A game. Well, this year not only did he recognize us, but he has been promoted as a result of his hard work. Once again, David was amazing. Friendly, checking up on us, and ensuring we were taken care of. Upon hearing that we received some bad news from home 2 days in to our 8 day stay, he took it upon himself to help us have the best week despite our bad news. He checked in on us several times a day. Thank you, David! 2) Hugo - Beach Beds/server Friendly, funny, attentive, great personality, and super helpful. He was awesome. 3) Super Mario - Beach Beds/server/poolside Mario, quite frankly, was absolutely amazing. You have to sit in his section. He gets to know your name immediately and remembers it. He makes your drink exactly how you want it each and every time, is friendly, great personality, attentive, hard working, and is constantly offering you food or drink. He is amazing, amazing, amazing. 4) Carmona - VIP Cabana (Now side) Carmona was absolutely amazing. Attentive, hard working, always offering you a drink, or food and was just an all-round great person to have looking after us. He ensured our "extra-spoiling of ourselves" was extra-spoiled. Thank you! 5) Daniel & Adrian - Market Cafe buffet (breakfast) I put them together because they work their butts off, all the while being funny, attentive, and just simply provide a great buffet experience. They are definitely a notch above. Which brings me to... 6)Raul - Market Cafe buffet (breakfast) Raul has been here since we came in 2017. He is top shelf. Provided a huge hug when he saw us and recognized us. Lots of laughter, great infectious personality, and just makes you feel welcome and looked after. He definitely knows how to make you smile. Thanks Raul! You are awesome. 7) Efren - Tamarindo Restaurant What a character. He made us feel right at home and had the best one-liner jokes. He has mastered the 5 second zinger-comment...in and out. By the time you start laughing he has moved on doing his job as he simply doesn't stop working and moving. He was awesome. We loved him. Funny, funny man with a high work ethic. Finally, 8) Andres - Romantic Dinner (beach) Andres is a professional. The way he interacts with you, his demeanour, and his gracious, wily-veteran style is truly admired and appreciated. He made our dinner amazing and out-did himself when he made me an authentic Spanish coffee. It was a must...total flaming coffee extravaganza. Thank you, Andres! That's all I have for you. I could go on, but you get the picture. This resort has something we haven't felt in any other resort, even other Secrets, and that is a real, true, authentic feeling of "FAMILY". You truly feel like you are with family at a family home. Well-done. This resort, in all likelihood, will become our "go to", home resort.

We recently stayed at Secrets Vallarta Bay for the 7th time. We love this resort that is why we keep coming back. Huge thank you to Alejandra and Noeh always going that little extra to make the vacation wonderful. We visited the Italian restaurant as well the French. Both were outstanding and thank you to Chef Marco for your exquisite dinner in the Bordeaux! We also tried the Asian Himitsu but were terribly disappointed. There was a ground of 19 at two tables with 5 children under 5 running around throwing chopsticks. Sorry but servers and guests can get injured with this activity and if children are not able to sit through the service then do other guests a respect and don’t bring them. We were a bit disappointed as things have changed. The alcohol is not top shelf. We do not drink a lot but don’t give your guests cheap bells Irish cream and say it’s Baileys because it isn’t. There are no slippers in the rooms and pens have been changed for pencils. I know this isn’t a big deal but I see where the hotel is trying to save money. This is 5 star that’s why we go there. The rest of the restaurants were delicious the burgers by the pool were fantastic as well as the breakfast so nothing has changed there. Just a few of these issues were a disappointment as Secrets has already set the bar....please don’t lower it.

Elizabeth was the best, our vacation was amazing. The resort was very beautiful, we stayed in the preferred club and had our own separate bar and concierge, as well as access to castaways. Everything was amazing, including the food and service.

Had a great time! However be prepared for the constant selling/up charging.

This was my first experience at an "all inclusive" resort and my first time in Puerto Vallarta, so I'm only able to compare Secrets/PV to my expectations. Overall Secrets and PV were great and for the most part we had an enjoyable and relaxing trip; however... Some pre-trip research all said that the vendors in Puerto Vallarta are nice but aggressive, so I expected the pushy salesmanship immediately stepping out of the airport. What I did not expect was the same perpetual selling to extend inside the resort. Upon arriving to Secrets we were promptly brought to the check-in desk... of course there was an upgrade available... $50 a night to upgrade to the "preferred" building. We took it, but more on that later. During the check-in process we were informed about the different restaurants (which are first come first serve), the pools and lounge chairs (which you cannot save/reserve), and that we were to receive special coupons for discounts off some of the premium packages the resort offered; premium is code for up charge. The rest of the check in process seemed to be going easy, "can I go to my room now?" "No, see this woman standing behind you at the check-in desk... she has your coupons." To get your coupons you must enter the first round of the hard selling. However, the words and tone of the check-in staff make it seem talking to this new person is mandatory; not once it is expressed that you can opt out of this conversation. This conversation is to rope you in and committed to attend round two of hard selling. you're brought to a table in the lobby which is open air with an awesome view of the water; the conversation is pleasant and effective in disarming your ability to say "no", and with the promise of a deep spa discount you reluctantly agree to attend a breakfast, hour and half presentation about the resorts rewards membership program (rewards membership is code for timeshare). “I mean you’re going to eat breakfast anyway, so why not spend a little more time and get a spa discount... no big deal, right?” "Can I go to my room now?"... "Yes you can, we'll see you tomorrow morning". We go to the "preferred" building. The perks are 24/7 concierge, a full bar where you can get a drink on your way in or way out or a refill, there is a buffet of snacks, and you have your own guest service desk (so you don't have to go to the regular front desk again).... I'm sure there is more, but these are the perks we used. The first thing we did was walk around the property to get the lay of the land. We walk to Oceana (the seafood restaurant). They were setting up for dinner, and we go up to the second floor to look at the view. The waiter setting up introduced himself, and said if we ordered a bottle of wine we can reserve seating on the second floor to see the sunset. A glass of house wine is free, a bottle of premium wine is an up charge. Also, the dinning is first come first serve unless you buy a bottle of wine! The next morning we get a phone call at 8:00 am to remind us about the 8:30 am breakfast sales pitch we reluctantly agreed to. With our ability to say "no" and the confidence that our stay will not be negatively impacted if we decide not to go through with the sales pitch, we walked down to the lobby to meet with the nice lady who gave us the coupons to tell her face to face that we were not going to sale pitch. When we approached her, she immediately went into sales mode and asked for a credit card to put the promised discounted spa service - see they literally make you buy into the sale pitch. This made it easy to say no. She remained pleasant but aggressively insisted - eventually we firmly said "No, we're not going" and walked away. This moment is the reason for the 4 star review. My expectation going to an all inclusive resort is to relax, but the amount of aggressive selling was a constant reminder that the resort was just looking to squeeze more money. I'm really glad we decided not to go through this "presentation" because it's not a hour and half presentation while you eat breakfast. Each person or couple is assigned their own sales person to eat breakfast with in the general dining area… like their travel buddies! It was so awkward watching couples having their first vacation breakfast with this stranger trying to feign connection to disarm the couple to paying for a resort timeshare! Aftering writing this I’m tempted to bring the review to 3 stars. Again - overall we had a really good time - the drinks could have been stronger, but from what everyone says all-inclusive resort bartenders don’t poor too heavy unless you tip. Highlights At breakfast, go to the girl making “mexican” breakfast dishes (her station is to the left of the buffet). She will make eggs how you like it, but the menu she cooks from is awesome. I can’t remember the dish name, but try the eggs with ham, cheese, tortilla, peas, and ranchero sauce. It was so good! If you can, reserve a pool side balinese. Very relaxing and the wait staff is very attentive. The Italian restaurant was my favorite. We didn’t plan on leaving the resort and do any excursions - once we were settled in we relaxed the whole time! Things I wish I knew before In the airport immediately after you get your luggage is where all the excursion vendors are setup and you will be tricked and diverted to talk to them… if you’re not looking to book an excursion say “no” and keep walking. You are not obligated to talk to the coupon ladies unless you want the coupons. We bought a few bottles of wine and used the coupons to get $10 off each bottle - although the mark up on these bottles of wine is huge, so not sure how worth it. The house wine is good enough. There is a walkway in the pool area to go between Secrets and Now Amber (where the Italian restaurant is). You don’t need to go up to the third floor lobby and walk through Amber to just go back to the pool level to get to the restaurants on the Amber side.

Third time visit to this secrets, the facilities are well maintained and each year seem to improve. the food was excellent at all restaurants with capers and Bordeaux excelling. Our room was in the preferred club building and our housekeeper Mirna was efficient and always happy, so to her and Benny and Eduardo in the preferred club bar, thank you for making our visit rewarding and memorable. The only thing I was not a fan of was the black sheep rock band poolside and in the lobby at night and i dont think i was the only one. All in All secrets is our go to sun vacation.
