This was the second time that we had been to this resort. We love walking the beach as it is very nice, (when the seaweed stays away). We found the food did not quite make the mark this time. We decided to upgrade to the "Privileged" accommodation so that we could eat at the B Loved restaurant and supposedly have an upgraded room as well as sit in a certain section on the beach. All I know is the room smelled very musty as though the air conditioner could not keep up with the humidity. Since I have been home, I have had to wash all of my clothing, even if I didn't wear it down there, as everything smelled. Some restaurants weren't too bad, the Asian and the Grill as well as B Loved but the others were just OK. They are in the process of selling Executive class levels now and I am hearing that the Privileged level will be eliminated at some point. The entertainment has been improved since our last visit and they put alot of effort into it. All things considered, I think it might be time to find another resort in the Mayan.

I went with a friend who needed a break from getting her MBA, so we went over spring break and decided on this hotel so we wouldn't have to spend the week with spring breakers in the Cancun area. We had a great time. This resort is geared towards couples mainly, and does not cater solely to Americans. I would suggest learning a few words in Spanish so you can order water, and know how to say please and thank you, but most of the staff and servers spoke English. This resort did not disappoint. It's small, and the pool and beach are beautiful. Go down to the beach or pool early to reserve a shaded chair, because they do fill up quickly. One day the beach was very grassy, but it cleared up the next day and we had clear waters for most of our trip. I've never had amazing food at any resort, but this was decent. The Mexican and Italian restaurants are authentic, which some guests had issues with, because it wasn't Tex-Mex and pizza. They do have a steak house and Asian restaurant as well. The breakfast buffet was just okay, but they did have a huge selection. They have griddle stations, but they aren't manned 100% of the time so it's pretty hit or miss. One of the downsides is that the alcohol is basically water. I understand why they do this, but you won't be getting buzzed on one Margarita. We stuck to wine and beer for the most part. Our room was very clean, and the hotel in general was pretty spotless. The rooms are set in the jungle, so it's very tropical and you walk through trees and over ponds to get everywhere. Our mini-fridge was always stocked and we received clean beach towels every day. The resort can get pretty sleepy, but they did a good job at having events throughout the day and something big each night. We did take advantage of the sports and exercise classes offered, and went to the nightly entertainment that was included. There was a "Mexican Night" which included dancers and a band, a beach party night, a comedy/talent show, and a synchronized swimming show which was amazing. I would definitely go back if I needed another relaxing, beach vacation.

My wife and I have stayed at a few different resorts of this kind and stayed here for a very anticipated week. My experiences were different than the glowing reviews that I've read on TripAdvisor. I did my research before I booked. First of all, I think that people come back to a resort numerous times for a couple different reasons. I think people feel comfortable with what they know. Also people have an affinity for something that they're invested in especially after telling all their friends and followers online and after giving gushing reviews on TripAdvisor. With that being said, I don't want to take away from anyone else's love for this place. Just suffice to say, we won't be back. I'll list the pros and cons.... Pros: A nice beach (at least in front of the hotel) The rooms were small but adequate. Housekeeping was adequate. We tipped so who knows. Bed pretty comfortable. Very few bugs. They must spray or something because I didn't get one bite. Easy to find beach chairs. Nice spa with jacuzzi, dry and wet sauna and relaxing beds in a pretty outside private area that is essentially free when you have the privilege package. The breakfast buffet was adequate. Some of the bartenders were well spoken and friendly. The resort is on the small side which is kind of refreshing if you have been to gigantic resorts with thousands of people. Cons: The food is sometimes literally inedible. The steak is tough and rubbery. The crepe and pancake stations were abandoned. The cooked French toast and pancakes were tastless and rubbery. Cold syrup. The menus and the restaurants generally have food I've never heard of and gave me a feeling like I was gambling, mostly I lost. I ate some unknown funk that gave me water diarrhea and a sour stomach for 2 days. I think this is the only time I've been to an all inclusive where I've lost weight. The beach is good however on one side you have a what looks like buildings destroyed in a hurricane and the other side there's a public beach with hundreds of locals with boomboxes and massage shanties hocking their wares as you walk by. Giant piles of seaweed (which I know isn't their fault). Guests helping with wheel barrels to cart it to the side of the resort? really? Night time entertainment was spotty and lame. Lip synced "Broadway" shows poolside. What the heck is this Rouza show? A dude that dresses up like a chick and sings heavy metal? I don't get it. The band sounded musically good but I don't get the basic premise. This is suppose to have a broad appeal? I mean, it would appropriate for a specialty club somewhere in a big city, but an all inclusive? Just weird. No top shelf liquor in the bars unless you buy their super duper exclusive package, whatever the heck that is. As we were rudely told by some hotel worker on the beach, " we obviously don't know what it is..." when we were approached by him to buy it. The bars were an adventure. There are probably 2 bartenders in the whole resort that speak enough English to understand your order. Otherwise it's a gamble on what your going to receive. You'll ask for a Lemon drop martini and you'll receive something pink and fruity. You ask for a blue margarita on the rocks and you'll receive a frozen mango margarita. When you ask him, what is this? They look and you inquisitively and it's obvious they have no idea what your saying. We ran into this all over the resort. Talking to the housekeeper, talking to hostesses, they have no clue what you're saying. I know it's Mexico but your guests come from all over the world and the most widely used language is English. We've been to other similarly priced resorts that have top shelf booze free and plentiful. We've seen even taquilla bars with all the best, self-serve, just for the drinking. So I know it's out there. The bathrooms around the resort are in need of repairs and a good cleaning. The one at the steakhouse literally had boogers all over the walls and what looked to be excrement wiped on the door which was broken. The WiFi was spotty and weak. Sometimes you're connected and sometimes you're not, all over. So use your own judgement. You might like it.

The weather was perfect and the two excursions to the Mayan Ruins was awesome. We sampled food at multiple restaurants within the resort and was never disappointed but unfortunately, the room service food was not that great. Our room was on the first floor and was very spacious for the three of us. Our room was nice and clean with the mini frig continuously stocked. If you're looking for a room with an ocean view, this is not the resort for you, this had more jungle view. Every tourist, hotel staff and tour guides we incountered were very friendly, polite and respectful. I very much enjoyed my stay. This was my daughters 2nd stay at this particular resort and I would recommend it.

Just back from 7 days at the Catalonia Royal Tulum and we had a great time! Very relaxing, the resort was just the perfect size and never felt crowded. We did find that the male staff were much more friendly than the ladies! (Except for the lovely young lady hostess at the buffet!) Other than that the service was great and we will probably return next year.
