My wife and I enjoyed a few days at Secrets Capri. The food, drinks, and room were great!!! The staff were awesome!!! A few that stand out were Juan, and Jose {pool bar}. Erik, and Daniel {pool chair attendants}. Eddie and Alfredo [wait staff}. The entertainment staff were great too, we enjoyed the shows they had!!! The only problem we saw is that it can be dangerous getting into the pool.

The only reason I gave this property 3 stars instead of 2 is because of the staff, they are a genuine delight. everything else was mediocre or worse. The food was plentiful and good but nothing great. The entertainment was mostly UN-entertaining. One of the magician acts was quite good and enjoyable. Drinks were good, don't forget to tip the mini bar server for a little extra service on your favorites. Hotel is OUTDATED and so are the mechanics of the rooms. outside balcony lights did not work and could not be fixed. room key cards did not always work and door lock had to be fixed. Could not leave your balcony door open at night or the floor would wet and dangerous, learned the hard way. The only caution warning to this was hidden on the balcony door behind the drape. The reason we came was to hear the waves lull us to sleep, The bathroom could use some work. If you like to take baths, I hope you are skinny, I'm not. Some of the towels had stains. The place was kept clean although they could have done a better job of the beach and seaweed. The seaweed is a real problem for them and for the guests (it really smells). A suggestion for management is after they have used their machines, they hand rake up the rest of it instead of leaving it. I have been to many other all-inclusive establishments that gave a better bang for your buck and your enjoyment.

    The manager deserves praise

We weren't sure what to expect as we heard it was the oldest of the secrets chain. This resort is extremely well managed! lt is well maintained and extremely clean. The staff is friendly and engaging, always willing to put up with me destroying their native tongue with my bad attempts at spanish! Nighttime entertainment was great, the staff even helped with an impromptu dance party one night, quickly assisting a guest when he drunkenly tried to DJ :) Food is delish and the severs are fast and friendly. The gym is the largest and cleanest of all the resorts we've been to. We wouldn't hesitate to return. Just please remember the staff rely on tips to make a decent living, what seems like pennies to us can be a world of difference to the staff and their families. Tip well and often!

There is something about the Capri that makes many people want to come back over and over. Granted it is the oldest Secrets resort (16 years this past week), the rooms are not the ultra sleek that the newer resorts boast about, there is only one pool for everyone, they do not have a French restaurant, the rooms have that tropical smell, and it could stand a good face lift; but it always feels like home when you arrive. There is now a beautiful beach at the Capri. About 4 years ago the ocean was coming up to the rock wall at the Cactus Restaurant. At that time, I feared the Capri was doomed. Now, many people say that it is one of the nicest beaches they have encountered. What makes the Capri are the employees. Friendly and always giving you a welcoming smile. When they say welcome home, it truly feels that way. The food is very good here. We enjoy all the restaurants so no real favorite. Drinks are good. Was a little bummed that they did not have Grey Goose but Belvedere was fine. The list of martinis that they make is off the chart. Try the Angel. Super Good. The resort is small and compact. You don't have to walk miles to go from point A to point B. There are stairs however that one must use if wanting to go to the Oceana and the Seaside Grill. That is one problem for people with bad stair skills. I must say that the entertainment team works very hard. We just returned from Secrets Akumal and their entertainment team and manager should take lessons from the Capri folks. They would go around the facilities and let you know what was happening. When Bernice lead the water aerobics, you knew that you were in for a great workout!!!!! They also have many evening activities to select from--more than some of the bigger resorts. The one thing that I really don't like about the Capri and I have not found this at any of the other resorts--they have entertainment by the pool many evenings and want you to buy a table to eat and enjoy the show. With this you need to buy a bottle of wine or some other spirit. When we first started coming to the Capri, this was not the case about the purchase of the wine. Somewhere along the line, management has become somewhat greedy to ask people to spend money to have a good seat to watch the entertainment. Yes they do have seats for those that don't want the full package but that is not the point. I can't end this review without giving some shoutouts to some of the employees. Lucaro is a lovely waitress at the Rendevou Lounge. We spent a great deal of time also at the Coco Cafe and Danira was always there with a smile. Bernice from the entertainment staff was great; while Tomas took great care of us at the pool area. Jesus was one of our favorite waiters and usually at the Himitsu. And I could not forget about our room attendant, Carlos, who did a great job of keeping our room somewhat in order. So if you want glitz and all the modern bells and whistles, this is probably not the resort for you. But if you want to experience the Mexican flavor (but no Mexican restaurant), good food, not getting lost finding a restaurant on the other side of the property, and feeling like you are very welcome at the resort--come here.
