Victor, Luis, Damian, Jonathan, Nicholas and most of all Wilberth and Fernando. The staff at Unico are what made our stay exceptional. Beautiful resort, incredible ocean views, great food, but the attentive, hardworking staff are what sets this gem apart from other resorts.

Great hotel, large, comfortable room with smart tv, including access to netflix. Our room had a beautiful and quiet private pool. The restaurants were excellent with great food and excellent service. All the staff were kind and helpful, especially Fernando who was our local host and also responsible for our comfort throughout our stay.

Great hotel, but the devil is in the detail

Unico lived up to every expectation we had prior to visiting and watching all those Youtube videos! You wont be disappointed. You're met on arrival with cold towels and shown to a seat to start your check-in process. it was busy, so we were hidden round the corner and missed out on the offer of a welcome drink. Check-in was quick, I liked that you didn't have to stand at the counter and you could relax - a great start. We selected our room scent from candles - I realised later in the week when I asked that you don't actually receive anything in your room, its the scent they spray and clean with when cleaning or turning down the room. Beware of 'Seaview rooms' our original room on the first floor had a view of the sea if you lent over the balcony and looked between the trees. We asked to more immediately and ended up on the fourth floor the following day - thank you. The rooms are exactly how they look on the webpage, spacious, the bed is so comfortable - I miss it loads! We had lots of fun in the outdoor hot tub too! The room cleaning was to a high standard and products got replaced regularly. If you want the mixology set in your room each night remember to ask your local host - we thought it came as standard. If you ever want anymore Nespresso pods (I'm a Nespresso junky) just ask. Room service, cleaning and turndown service is so easy to order on the app. The pillow menu order didn't work - order it through extra pillows... its the only way we could get them to appear. In every photo of the rooms I've seen bug repellent and mini bottles of wine. these didn't exist - you had to specifically ask or order them. We were there in the first two weeks of October; in this time the resort suffered from a bug issue - you might need something stronger than what you can get from them. They will spray your room if you ask though. Room service was great, but the food standard wasn't as good as in the restaurants - still great, a little basic though. Jugs of coffee can be ordered to your room if you prefer filtered rather than espresso style. You can only order wine or beer to your room if you want alcohol on room service. Everything in the minibar is included - so enjoy! The restaurants were great - I hate buffet for dinner in all inclusive restaurants, so it was a relief that there wasn't one! The best restaurant was the Mediterranean one, most people we talked to agreed. You could have breakfast here rather than buffet, that I would highly recommend. The food and service in this restaurant was second to none. Remember if you don't like something, send it back and ask for something else - the beauty of all-inclusive! The Asian restaurant was our second favourite. Considering we were in Mexico not Asia the food was authentic and the service was good, but not as good as the Mediterranean one. The teppanyaki is a must! You can only book this through your local host, so make sure you do. The biggest let down was the Mexican. The service in this restaurant was the worst on the whole resort. Its almost as is they didn't care. The menu is confusing and the serving staff dont take the time to talk you through it. The food wasn't as spectacular as you'd think given its Michelin star chef credibilities. This should be a showcase of what what Mexico has to offer, sadly it wasn't. 2087, the buffet by day, full service restaurant by night was great for breakfast. if you want poached eggs remember to order them as soon as you get in as they take some time. They have a mimosa and Bloody Mary station - not to be missed. If you want Latte's or other espresso drinks, just ask. The two pool bars where you can get food in the day serve pizza's, Mexican food and other bar snacks, or you can get it ordered to your lounger using the app. The snack bar with the pizza oven is the better one, serving seafood too. Ok, so the devil is in the detail. I get the impression the management think the hotel can survive on the quality of the property alone. The property is beginning to show signs of it being a few years old, with peeling paint and cracked tiles around the pool. The staff were cold and most of them didn't seem interested in being there, the staff really need to sort this out as they really can make a holiday when you interact with them. You can't take a drink from one bar to another - this really annoyed us. If you leave the lobby bar and move to a restaurant you have to pour it into a frat-party style plastic cup, despite not going outside. Not particularly single-use plastic friendly... it would have been ok if it was a plastic wine glass for instance. Sometime the bars ran out of glasses - I had a glass of wine in a tumbler a couple of nights and a cocktail glass another- not really 5 star service. When they ran out of a spirt they weren't prepared to go get more - they just said they'd run out, that was that. What did dent the holiday was day two where they tried to sell us the 'legendary club' in return for inclusions credit. This felt a bit cheap and despite us saying no at the outset he kept trying. You don't expect to be sold what felt like a time share when you've already spent enough on your vacation/holiday! Please stop doing this UNICO! Inclusions... On the whole this was great. Everything was included you could think of in a normal all inclusive. The gym classes, and excisions were a bonus, as were the salon services at 25% service fee. The Spa on the other hand was ridiculously priced! They have basically taken the price of a treatment and quadrupled it; so when you pay your 25% you actually paying the regular price you'd pay anywhere else. Id rather they didn't include it and used a normal tariff - it felt like they were trying to pull the wool over your eyes. You can't use the spa at all unless you have a treatment - something that's not mentioned on our booking or on the website. The pool party was a lot of fun (I've posted a video on my instagram @gttomdubber) the saxophone player is awesome. The activity pool can feel like a 'Spring break' party at times though. With 3 other pools there's a lot of choice though. The beach was kept clean, it is slightly rocky, but the area is known for it. unless it had just rained the water was clear. If you wander to one of the resorts either side of Unico it shows how much work they put into maintaining the beach for Unico customers. Word of warning, as the beach is property of the local government rather than Unico we were approached by drug dealers a few times... Would I return? Yes - if I lived closer for a weekend break. As I'm from the UK I would prefer to explore somewhere else next time, but I would recommend to everyone. Our local host Roberto was amazing - you've got everything covered if he's allocated to you on arrival. In terms of pointers for the Unico management - it would be great to see you about the resort occasionally interacting with your guests and an evidence that your staff are being supervised and standards are maintained. Your staff need to be trained to 5 star standards your customers expect and be on their A game at all times; The female door host in 2087 at breakfast, the bar staff in the rear (not pizza) pool snack bar and servers in the Mexican restaurant need service training/supervision particularly. Its the service that lets this hotel down.

Unico 20 87, is a beautiful beachside resort with some wonderful people making you feel welcomed! Fernando, our gracious host, took care of us from the start of our stay. He was informative and helpful. He took care of our restaurant reservations and made our stay very enjoyable. I enjoyed the various delicious selections at the breakfast buffet. Also, the restaurants, Mi Carisa and Siete Cuevas were awesome dining experiences. Siete Cuevas, had the delicious Duck Tacos and the Mayan Coffee! My spa experience was memorable, starting with the hydro therapy and ending with a pleasurable and much needed massage from my awesome masseuse, Anabel! I also enjoyed the special touches like the single rose, rose petals and chocolates layed on our bed at night. Then, the refreshing drinks from Mixtology left at our room to mix at our leisure was also a special surprise. And, the swim up pool from our room was so luxurious! Overall, the stay was memorable and worth recommending to family and friends!
