Seat selection

Front, back, window or aisle. Optional seat selection is available. All of the following information applies to seat selection for travel on bookings with WestJet, WestJet Encore, WestJet Vacations and for group bookings unless otherwise mentioned. Travelling with one of our airline partners? Be sure to familiarize yourself with their seating options as they may differ from ours.

Our seat maps vary depending on the aircraft type and series you are flying on. We have some great images that show some pretty neat details on our seat map page, including how the seats are arranged and where the emergency exits and lavatories are located. For additional information about each aircraft visit our fleet page.

Selecting your seat ahead of time gives you the peace of mind that comes with knowing you'll get the seats you want on the aircraft and you won't be separated from your family, friends or colleagues — a concern that may arise if you opt to select seats during the check-in process.

Seat selection is available for all WestJet operated flights booked two or more hours before scheduled departure. If your itinerary includes any flights operated by one of our airline partners you will not be able to select a seat for the partner operated portion of your travel. For charter flights, seat selection is available at airports only, as we must verify your travel documents and collect necessary information upon check-in.

If your flight qualifies for seat selection, you can select your seat at westjet.com while you make your booking online, or any time after by going to "Manage trips" and entering your reservation code and last name. You can contact us at any time up to two hours before departure to select your seat for a fee.

Manage my seat

A seat in Business is not available on one or more of your flight segments booked and you will be seated in the Premium cabin.

Seat fees are charged for each flight segment (each segment is identified by a different flight number) and each direction of travel and vary between seat type. Seat selection is not available on Basic. A seat will be automatically assigned for you when purchasing a Basic fare at time of check-in. However, at time of check-in you have the option to move to another available seat for a fee. Depending on which fare you select, there may be no seat fee.

Yes, you can select regular seats for free but only 24 hours to 60 minutes before your flight's scheduled departure, and only through web check-in and mobile check-in (some restrictions apply). Web and mobile check-in is available on all domestic and U.S. flights and may also be available for some of our international destinations. If you check in at the airport, seats will be assigned, at which point, you can make your seating request. The earlier you check in, the better the chance you'll get the seat you want.

No, if you purchased a Basic fare, your seat is automatically assigned at time of check-in. However at time of check-in you have the option to move to another available seat for a fee.

Business pods with lie-flat seats
Our Business cabin is only available on our 787 Dreamliner. When you purchase a Business fare, you will be seated in a private pod with dine anytime service from our restaurant-style menu. You will also enjoy lounge access, priority screening and boarding, and many more exclusive benefits.

Plus seats

Premium seats
Seats in Premium are located in the first three rows of our 737 aircraft and have extra leg room. Currently, middle seats that are blocked will be phased out as our 737 aircraft will be reconfigured to 2x2 seating to further enhance your Premium experience on board.

With the purchase of these seats you will also receive priority boarding, early access to overhead bins, ability to disembark first (depending on aircraft type), and food and beverages (including beer, wine and spirits). Selections vary based on flight length, time of day and availability. WestJet reserves the right to limit alcohol service. If you are booking Premium fares, you’ll have complimentary access to seats in Premium, and any remaining seats in Premium will be available for purchase by guests travelling on an EconoFlex and/or Flex fare during the check-in window.

Exit-row seats

Exit-row seats
Exit-row seats offer additional legroom. For safety reasons you must meet the exit row seating restrictions.

Extra leg room seats
These are the rows after our Premium seats, and before our exit-row seats. These seats offer a few more inches of leg room, as well as first to disembark the aircraft upon landing.

Regular seats

Regular seats
Regular seats make up the remaining spots on our aircraft. We offer the same great WestJet customer service that you have come to know us for, no matter where you’re seated.

Less desirable

Less desirable
Some of our regular seats are less desirable than others due to their location. These seats may not have the ability to recline or no window. These seats are identified with an 'L' if you are using our online seat selection option.

Seat fees are not refundable, unless you call within 24 hours of making your initial booking, with the exception of full itinerary cancellations.

WestJet Encore's Q400 aircraft have a different configuration and seat pitch. If you’re seated in Premium you still have priority boarding, early access to overhead bins and the first to disembark the plane, however, the seats do not have extra legroom.

Seats in Premium are located in the first four rows of our 767 aircraft and have extra legroom, greater recline (eight inches), a footrest, and a wider seat. Seats in Premium are arranged in rows of six window or aisle seats, there is no middle seating. Seats 3D and 3F are wheelchair accessible.

With the purchase of these seats you will also receive advance boarding, early access to overhead bins, first to disembark the plane and enhanced meal service that includes hot or cold dishes and your choice of beverages (including beer, wine and spirits). Selections vary based on flight length, time of day and availability. WestJet reserves the right to limit alcohol service. Guests booking Premium fares have complimentary access to seats in Premium, and any remaining seats in Premium will be available for purchase by guests travelling on Econo and EconoFlex fare types during the check-in window.

Guests seated in row 40 may encounter gathering guests and other activity around and behind their row due to their proximity to the rear lavatories and galley.

If you have an existing reservation, you can select a seat by going to "Manage trips" and entering your reservation code and last name. You can also call us at 1-888-937-8538 and we'll be happy to add a seat selection to your reservation.

Manage my seat

You will be prompted to select new seats for any segments you are changing.

Reserving your seats for a fee at the time of booking is the best way to ensure that you have a specific seat.

If you are travelling with children between two and 11 years of age please select the children drop-down list for bookings made on westjet.com or by letting us know if you call 1-888-937-8538 to book. If seats are available, we will automatically seat children with at least one adult on the reservation. If seats are not available at check-in time, our WestJet agent or inflight crew will do their best to accommodate seating changes at boarding.

If you are travelling with children over the age of 11 you should consider reserving seats at the time of booking to ensure you are seated together.  If available, you may select regular seats for free but only 24 hours to 60 minutes before your flight's scheduled departure, and only through web check-in and mobile check-in (some restrictions apply).

Please be aware that seats in Premium on our 767 aircraft are configured 2x2 with no middle seat, so you may be seated across the aisle from your child depending on the seats you select.

Depending on your special need, fare type and the seats available, we will attempt to seat you in the best location possible. Other seating accommodations may be available based on a case-by-case assessment of your needs.

When you contact us for a group of 10 or more guests, just mention that you'd like to have your group seated together, and we will work with you to find the best available option.
