Beautiful location, lovely holiday

lindsey180 (London, United Kingdom) on Jan 29, 2023

Overall we were extremely pleased with our break at the royalton. We did not booked blue diamond and we do net feel that we missed out. Beautiful sheltered bay and quiet beach. Adequate sun beds, never had an issue getting one. We managed to eat at all the restaurants at least twice. We just arrived either early at 6pm or late and we were seated. Unfortunately it would be better if they had a simple booking system for the restaurants. Buffet was good, again busier at peak times and service suffered a little as staff we very busy. Staff were hard working, friendly and diligent. Place was clean with lovely gardens. Room good standard and guest services were responsive to requests. One of our favourite aspects was J’amilyn and her daily boot camp. She helped keep us in shape and was great fun. Good facilities at the gym. Evening entertainment was bit hit and miss but they did have some good bands on in the evening. Overall a good holiday, we would gladly come back.

a trip to winter sun

come back after a week stay at the Royalton and it was fantastic... we upgraded to diamond club and had a room facing the sea on the 8th floor and sat on the balcony every evening watching the huge cruise ships leaving.. i think we had the best view of any hotel on the island.. we also had our own butler called Khem who was fantastic but we found the term butler a bit insulting so we called the butlers 00 as in the bond movies because they were all very well dressed smooth sun glasses and got the job done Khem was our 007... the hotel was fantastic so where all the staff and we had no complaints about the food or the service.Out and about was excellent.. adventure extreme boot was was great and very fast with 3 250 hp motors behind you and the island tour is highly recommended ... would we stay here again .... of course it will be our first choice

Beautiful Position ruined by the food

StevieT007_12 (Barnstaple, United Kingdom) on Jan 27, 2023

We travelled as a family of 4 adults/ late teens to this hotel in October 2022. Firstly let me say that the hotel is in a beautiful spot with a fantastic beach which is well kept and lovely and calm for swimming. We booked Diamond club and it was really worth the extra money as our service from them was exceptional, however they are very aware of the short comings of this hotel which seems unfair to them as they did their utmost to get us into the restaurants etc. Which leads me onto the main problem of this hotel the food, Now I realise this is an all inclusive hotel and not the Savoy in London but the food was not good. We used the buffet one evening for dinner and as buffets go it was ok but the restaurants are poor, We went to the Caribbean restaurant the second night and waited over 2 hours for starters and our main whilst larger groups kept jumping the queue and getting served and the portions were tiny. We tried the steak restaurant and we ordered French Onion soup to start which when it arrived tasted just of water no salt at all and when we complained it was just taken away and that was it, no apology at all. Three of us ordered Medium rare and they came out cremated. Our main thing though was the omelette counter in the morning as my wife is vegetarian which clearly must be a new thing to the servers as they were cooking meat on the same plate often flicking bacon into the over cooked part of the grill often landing on her food. So continental breakfast was her only choice. On the whole this could be a great hotel if it changed just a few small details and properly trained its some of its staff. On the whole though we wouldn't recommend the hotel as there are far better all inclusive hotels at a cheaper price with better service. Antigua however is stunning and the people are lovely and really helpful.

A ROYAL DISAPPOINTMENT - PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING

LivNLaVida (Los Angeles, California) on Jan 26, 2023

Located on a beautiful beach, the property is open air and what you imagine when you think of an island getaway. This is NOT by any means an "Autograph Collection" calibre hotel, in terms of level of service, amenities and quality of food. It is a standard Marriott and not worth the $850/room night. PROS: * Gorgeous beach location that is protected from high surf and winds, you can hang out in the ocean all day, * Nightly, varied entertainment is fun and there's lots of interaction with the guests, * Grounds are well maintained and pretty, * Our Bonvoy liaison Eric was the most helpful person we encountered, * Olivia at the Cafe/Gelateria was very sweet. CONS: *Arriving after a long flight, Danelle at the Front Desk was neither welcoming on our arrival or departure, she wasn't hospitable at all nor friendly, * The staff throughout the restaurants range from predominantly disgruntled and surly to being clearly unhappy about having to be there (really made us question the hotel business practices and culture), * If you don't upgrade to Diamond Club, you do not get priority at ANY of the restaurants other than the buffet, it is very much a caste system, * Teen Hang Out area has a broken air hockey and raggedy foosball table, * The whirlpools are COLD, as are the pools, little kids freeze quickly and even some adults had trouble staying warm, * Need first aid? Hotel staff comes with toilet paper and antiseptic to clean your wounds, * Out of pool towels at least 3 mornings by 10am, finding seats at the pool or beach is almost impossible if you're not up by sunrise, * Emanuelle, the "security guard" randomly singled me out and had me sign a piece of paper as I headed down the other end of the beach (I went almost daily and she never stopped me previously or any other guests that I saw), * The Christmas Gala Dinner was cold and served with a side of attitude, and took over 2 hours, with at least one course missing, * Dinner at Hunter's and Grazie typically took over 2 hours, with drink requests coming sporadically, (don't bother with Nibbles, it's terrible food and service) * Don't order your steak at Hunter's medium-rare because it'll come out well done and is paper thin (ate there multiple times and learned to ask for rare), * Sure, it's all you can drink if you like to drink the cheapest, poorest quality wine and spirits out there (stick to the Aperol, Pimms etc.), * Shower leaks all over the bathroom and the tiles and floor are coming apart (we weren't surprised to hear that some higher floors had flooded and guests were evacuated and sent off property), * None of the amenities we requested prior to arrival like slippers and robes were placed in the room, * The "minibar" leaves a lot to be desired, it's Coke, Sprite, Diet Coke, Water, Twinings and Coffee, * Kids Club staff and activities are meh, * Gym has one mechanical treadmill that was as temperamental as the staff, class cancelled due to a public holiday but not shared with guests (fortunately a guest took it on himself to teach the class), * A door at the Spa that was constantly opening and closing and slamming grated on my nerves, it was supposed to be a peaceful, tranquil environment, * Good luck emailing the hotel prior to arrival, they were completely unresponsive (and that should have been a sign for me to cancel this reservation), * Evol at the Concierge Desk told us he would inform us when our pre-arranged Taxi to the airport arrived, but our driver ended up waiting over 15 minutes for us as we were not informed of his arrival, * Concierge desk gave us access to Luggage Room without even asking for our tickets or ID (be careful what you leave in there as it seems anyone can go in).

Fond memories made

John T on Jan 26, 2023

We had an amazing stay with fond memories made. The staff were attentive, friendly and engaging. The restaurants offered a good variety of options and the rooms were maintained well. We read a few negative reviews prior to our stay and did not encounter any of those bad experiences. Well worth a visit and we will be returning. Thank you.
