Very good experience

Spent 2 weeks at Ocean point resort and stayed very satisfied with hotel’s services. Hotel’s facilities are great, very beautiful pool and beach area, and views from restaurants. Room was large and clean, food was tasty, service was good too and staff is great - everything you can possibly expect from 3 star hotel. Not related to the hotel but might be useful: We had a great time in Antigua, very beautiful island, amazing beaches, no seaweed etc. The only negative is taxi prices, e.g. 80$ for 7km return journey. Plus taxi looks like minibus and not particularly luxurious or comfortable. You would expect much better cars and service for this price. We read online that taxi prices are fixed and reasonable - no. Also “drivers act as tour guides”, well… maybe we were unlucky, but their comments do not exceed “look this is a hotel”/“look this is supermarket”/“this is our cinema” - these are not type of comments you would expect from any professional tour guide. Therefore if you can drive rent a car!

Most relaxing holiday to Antigua

Just returned from a week’s holiday at Ocean Point and had one of the most wonderful and relaxing holidays. We booked with British Airways. Arrival at airport was smooth, there was a bit of a queue, but it went down very quickly. Checks were done for immigration, temperature checks and handing in health declaration. We were asked if we had been double vaccinated, which we had, but as it was not a requirement of entering Antigua, we had not downloaded our NHS app vaccine certificate, this caused us a bit of a delay as to our surprise they asked for this. We could not get our phones to connect to the airport Wi-Fi to download off the NHS app, in the end they just let us move on. Also when booking the holiday we did think about paying extra for a private taxi transfer, but as the hotel is nearby to the airport we chose the cheaper ‘Coach’ transfer. Our transfer ended up being a private vehicle anyway, and everyone arriving was being put into their own vehicles. I am not sure if this is because of Covid restrictions, but we were pleased we did not pay the extra. Check in at hotel was very quick, smooth and informative, we were given a rum punch which was delicious. Our room was a garden view, and we were very happy. Its décor was very typical of many hotels we’ve stayed in and was clean with plenty of room and space. There was a mini fridge, with 2 bottles of water, this was not restocked, although you are asked to keep your water bottles and get them refilled, to save use of plastic. Our air conditioning was very good and very welcome, there are no key cards so you can keep the air conditioning on when you leave the room. Maid came everyday and room was kept clean all week. The Wi-Fi in our room was intermittent, but did not cause us much of an issue, the best place for Wi-Fi is the reception area. We had a little balcony and a lovely view of the swimming pool with a sea view beyond. The staff at this hotel can not do enough for you, they helped us to book at a diving centre on the island and hire a car for 3 days. They also helped us to book for the stingray island excursion which was an amazing experience. This is a fairly small resort compared to the big chain hotels we usually stay at, and this makes the stay very personable, staff remember you and what you like and spend time chatting with you. The resort has a very relaxing vibe, and when we were there, it was never very busy. It has 2 beaches to choose from and a restaurant and bar just off the beach, beautiful relaxing settings. Due to covid restrictions there was no all-inclusive buffet, instead a very limited menu every mealtime and your food was brought to your table by waitresses. We enjoyed the food but wished there were more choice towards the end of the week. There are a few snacks available at the bar during the day like wraps and cakes etc… we never went hungry. And the bar staff are so cheerful and chatty, they will make you any drink you ask for. Occasionally they came round the pool and brought your drink to your sunbed. Overall, we feel this is a very good 3-star resort, the staff really make this place they work so hard and are always so friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money, we had a fabulous holiday in Antigua, we would certainly return to this resort in the future.
