The worst place we’ve ever vacationed!

jdjanicki (Land O Lakes, Florida) on Jul 26, 2021

The absolute worst place to vacation! The public areas of the property in general were ok. The rooms were NOT CLEAN. Our first room had no AC, not enough beds, and was in the primary area of sargassum seaweed with the worst rotten egg smell ever. We waited for them to switch our room for 3.5 hours by the pool… but at 10:30 pm we were informed they could not accommodate a room switch. Second day our room got switched at 1:00 pm. Both rooms were not clean. Dust crusted on the lights, ceiling and even a carpet of dust under the bed. During our 6 day stay, housekeeping never came to our room even once! We had a party of 3 and only 2 towel sets were provided. We had to empty our own waste baskets and get clean towels from the pool. Each day started at 7:00 am with backhoes outside our room to remove the seaweed. The smell was disgusting. Yet we were still charged a 24.00 per day resort fee! The staff was unfriendly and totally apathetic. The food was mediocre at best.

Great hotel, lovely staff however more suited for very quiet trip. Terrible wifi and beach

1737janineb (London, United Kingdom) on Jul 26, 2021

Just come back from 1 week stay with my friend and thought it was a really great break. The staff in my opinion were amazing contrary to other reviews. I was worried we’d be treated not as well, due to reviews saying they treated treated with disdain as they were white, but we were treated exceptionally well. So I guess it’s based on how you treat them! I think a lot of guests at this hotel were very rude to staff at times which I saw with my own eyes. I understand that us British and the Americans like things very fast, but if you come with the understanding that your in the Caribbean and it’s much more relaxed, you’ll have no issues. What also needs to be understood is they’re very understaffed so sometimes you may not get something as fast as you would like, but being disrespectful to the staff doesn’t help Anyone. We had an issue with our room in the beginning as it was very noisy as it was by the door (137 if your interested) but Collette at reception swiftly changed us to a better room when it became available. The entertainment is non existent and that’s ok for some but terrible for me and my friend. We bought a speaker to play some music and were told by one of the guests to turn it off and “can’t we be normal” which I found to very extreme as we weren’t playing anything disrespectful, we just wanted to hear music when on the beach and in our room. So I will repeat again, if you like entertainment this hotel is not for you. The water aerobics team were excellent however, but that was the only hotel the entertainment provided for me personally. Now the staff like i. said we’re exceptional and nothing was an issue.. well I when i say all the staff I exclude housekeeping as I never encountered housekeepers to be so lazy and unfriendly. I got sand in my bed one day and asked if she could change the sheet and she told me in 2 days she can??! If this is the service I’m paying $24 a day for, you need better staff and I’m not one to complain that much on holiday. The wifi is also included on this fee and is Absolutely crap! If you want to be on your phone by the pool, beach or when dining, forget it as it’s hit and miss. The beach... to put it nicely is awful. There’s 2 beaches we were on the coco side and the guys there try so hard to remove it but it comes back in full force the next day. I can only imagine how defeating to do it everyday. The other beach was for The watersports which was nice to have free equipment such as kayaks and paddling boats etc but I personally believe it’s done to try get the bad taste out of your mouth from their terrible beaches. I mean.. there’s 365 beaches there and they got 2 of the worst. The water was clear only for a few feet then became murky where you can’t see you feet which is a big Nono for me but maybe fine for others. The water sports team were very engaging and Kenton made our holiday. He was always up for a laugh and let’s us have a little boy ride on the boat. The pool were quite small considering the size of the hotel so it was always very crowded so if your a pool person be prepared to wake up early to save your space. The food was hit and miss like others have said. The steak was good and the restaurant at the beach was the best food they had oh and the salmon at eleven. I felt that the hotel should focus on actual Caribbean food especially at the buffet instead of the generic hotel food such as pizza, hot dog, chips etc as you don’t come to The Caribbean to eat that type of food. So again we had to leave the hotel to get the authentic Caribbean food. I couldn’t give 5 stars due to the food and quality of the actual hotel but the staff were amazing and would be the only reason I’d come back. Please start back up the entertainment!! If you want to have a good time there these guys will make sure you will: Kenton water sports Dane beach cart Sandino beach bar Wendy rainbow restaurant Ozzy cart driver Orlando cart driver Collette reception Andre pool bar Sheldon security Water aerobics staff Vaisheli rainbow restaurant FYI no one asked for a review however they were working so hard and I noticed in the reviews no one acknowledged this. Keep it up guys you might see me next year of Carnival is back up and running!
