Great Place for a Honeymoon

Will S (Buxton, United Kingdom) on Sep 11, 2021

We stayed for 9 nights in september for our honeymoon and loved our time here. We had a ocean view suite which couldnt have been closer to the beach if it tried and the room was clean and spacious. All the staff were very friendly and genuinely seemed to want to make our time enjoyable. The service was definitely very relaxed but that didnt bother us (also lets not forget that they may well have been short staffed due to covid like the british tourism/hospitality industry!) Loved the complimentary watersports. Food and drink was good - preferred the a la cart of an evening compared to the buffet. We were room 129 which was right next to where the evening bands/djs would set up so could be noisy until they stopped at 10pm but again this didnt bother us at all.

This hotel we chose as was highly recommended by friends and travel agents. However maybe we went at the wrong time- there was no way enough staff. Trying to get a chair by the pool is just so difficult - let alone one with shade for kids. One person serving a buffet! So the que is so long Even to get seated there is only one person at the front- if you have young kids you know how annoying this can be. No bars open until 10.30 am so even to get water or soft drink after breakfast you have to wait. Again not ideal with kids Check in took a good 45 mins again not ideal with kids after long flight They just dont have the service Dont get me wrong there are some brilliant staff like Patra at reflections who will do anything to make you happy. The kids club is really really good soo cannot fault them either. Some staff can be very rude Food is not so great and not so much chhoice so after few days can be boring as not much change Rooms are fairly small even thought we had a room with a living area - inadequate lighting and in general need updating . If you call room service it just takes so long for anything even if its something like a hair dryer you want. We decided to move on to another hotel ( so paid for both) we paid consideribly more for the sandy lane but overall looking at costs and quality -sandy lane is mich more worthit . The holiday improved so much more here and am so glad we changed. They have no evening entertainment and no atmosphere here at this hotel. Plus points are Kids club They do try accomodate you for food if you try pre order something Clean beach and pool area

Needs to improve

Tracy M (Montreal, Canada) on Sep 05, 2021

Canadian couple, active and in 50’s, stayed a week in mid-August 2021. Here are the pros: there are sister resorts within a taxi ride, so you can eat lunch or supper at other resorts. I highly suggest you do so! However, their system for reserving needs a jump into the 21st century, more below. There is a large pool and enough beach chairs. The beach is clean and although all beaches are public in Barbados so people will come and try to sell stuff, they are not annoying or scary, There are plenty of kayaks and paddleboards available for free. There is a nice long list of excursions that can be booked at the hotel, again their reservation system is done with paper and pen only. We enjoyed being the only North Americans at this small resort; the rest were British, as Barbados is a former colony and guests told us that the island is on their « green » list for travel. There are two restaurants but only the one is open for three meals a day. The menu for dinner, whether buffet or a la carte, can only be seen at breakfast that morning, again on paper. The place is clean; the rooms are cleaned each day as well. You can get plenty of bottled water bottles (Dasani) at any bar, restaurant or by room service, but our fridge was never stocked. We had to do something to get water. As for alcohol in room service, they will pour you one cup of wine in a plastic cup and bring it to the room! They refused to bring a bottle, even when we said we would be sharing it for 2. The bed and pillows were comfortable in the garden view room (nothing fancy). The room and bathroom were actually quite roomy. The landscaping is clean and beautiful. There is a coffee shop and bar open up top, and the coffees and drinks were great, but it opens at 10 and sometimes randomly closes in the afternoon. A coffee shop that opens at 10 means forget about a morning coffee unless you want the dredge in your room or to simply go to breakfast. And if you go to breakfast and order a coffee to go, you have to wait forever for someone to go find a to go cup and lid. Like wait 10-15 minutes. Each day! There were many smiling, friendly faces, both at the desk and in the restaurants and bars. Guests and staff smile and greet you as you pass by. There is plenty of seating at the main restaurant, so you don’t wait too long. The 2 excursions we booked, the Island Adventure and the glass bottom snorkel and shipwreck, were fun and worth the money. Now for the areas of improvement. The service is slow, slow, slow, so bring your patient pants. As mentioned above, if you want to reserve for dinner either onsite or off site, they bring out a paper log and a pen. If you reserve off-site, they ask you which resort do you want and which day, but you can’t know if there’s actually room there for your time. They say they will call you to confirm the day of, but we actually experienced a call at 5:30 for a 7pm reservation that it wasn’t available! We had to scramble to get a reservation onsite. You also can’t see the menus of the other resort restaurants, so it’s a fingers-crossed situation. Updating to a computerized system would solve all these problems. Same with the excursions, you have to look at a paper book, then talk to the reservations person at the reception, and they will write you a paper receipt with a written time and place, etc. They will tell you in the air what to bring, etc. So bring something to take notes with! That being said, the excursions we booked were excellent and worth the money. We experienced some maintenance issues, as well. First day, no water pressure intermittently, and when there was a trickle, no hot water. We called the reception and were told that maintenance was working on it. By the afternoon, when we wanted to get ready for dinner, all was well and we didn’t have any other issue. The second thing is that on the day before we left there it rained quite hard all day, not just a tropical shower, and we had two leaks from the ceiling, one of which soaked my partner’s side of the bed. They sent a cleaning lady to change the bedding and my partner was asked to push the bed over, away from the leak! A bucket was placed, and that was that. So, all in all, I’d say that they really, really need to update their computer system to better organize and serve the customers, and the maintenance issues are quite irritating, so updated or better building maintenance would solve these issues. We had a good time, despite all, but we would not return to this resort.

Needs a revamp

1879fulham (London, United Kingdom) on Sep 01, 2021

As a family of 3 stayed here for a week in late August. Also stayed at this hotel 5 years ago or so. The hotel is in a wonderful location but sadly the hotel in my estimation has been somewhat neglected since my last visit there. The communal areas even the rooms looked a bit tired and were in need of freshening up. The furniture also looked to be the same as before along with the rugs basically tired! A revamp is desperately needed in my opinion. There were even a few cracked tiles around the pool area that could be or become dangerous. As for the food the choices are a little bit limited with very little variety. Most evenings were unfortunately on a buffet basis as well meaning lots of queues. A number of the staff were very friendly but one or two could do with more customer service training. A special mention and thank you goes out to one of the hotel duty managers ( Veronica) who handled a difficult situation regarding our room in a very professional and efficient way. With Marriotts recent ownership hopefully this hotel will get the investment it clearly needs. Should it do so I will happily return. If not then I will look elsewhere.

Here at the moment with wife and 15yr old son , hotel is very covid safe, and some facilities are slightly limited at times but generally very good, food is good, nearly always served to you because of Covid.Im guessing its at 50 % capacity. So far so good (apart from lack of transfer from airport even though it was booked and confirmed with CC.)
