Five Star Customer Service
DrMAJones (San Francisco, California) on Feb 04, 2023
This is a charming hotel. We are in an oceanfront suite and upon check in there was a cold bottle of Prosecco, bottle of rum punch, fruit plate and fully stocked minibar. What i noticed immediately was the high level of customer service. You are greeted by a wonderful team and everyone you encounter is warm and friendly. The food is fantastic throughout the day and there are many options including an ice cream shop. We came here from the Hilton where we were attending a business meeting. We have also stayed previously at Sandals, Sugar Cane Club, Hilton, Infinity on the Beach and condos on the West coast. As a loyal Marriott Titanium level member, I would definitely return to this property. Although it is not fancy, the warmth of the staff, beach accessibility, great pools and jacuzzi, the lovely sound of waves as you rest in a very comfortable bed will make you glad you chose a hotel that gives you a personalized Bajan experience. My husband is from Barbados and also loves it here.
Was so excited to go back and what a disappointment it was

We got married here in May 2019 it was a lovely hotel and never thought in 3 and a half years it would change sooo much We asked to move after 3 days it was that bad.. Paid just under £15k didn’t expect to put up with…. The pool made all our clothes green, after them saying it was our suncream as we changed it, asked others and a baby came out onto a pure white towel and we showed them it was green from the pool Water they agreed. TUI said claim off insurance and wouldn’t move us. My son (3) was nearly electrocuted when he went to grab a light that was exposed. My daughter (7) fell in the bath as the shower curtain was attached by suckers fell off the wall, rooms needed gutting especially the bathrooms. The swimming pool was falling apart, needed huge maintenance as well as making swimmers green. The food was disgusting, we loved it years ago. The hot dog rolls were so stale they tried to disguise with toasting them.. It was filthy. Some staff were rude, not friendly like they were, they did change nearer the end of the holiday but too little too late.. it was ruined, we did get an apology from the hotel as one lady it’s huge lashes was sooo very rude to my husband and 3 year old son. They just seem like they weren’t interested at all. The beach isn’t like it shows in the photos as Sandals had put rocks in the sea to make their bit calmer leaving Turtles beach small and not really there and the rubbish in the bushes ??.. Evening entertainment was absolutely shocking. It wasn’t the best in 2019 but they still scaled it down. So sad as this really was a lovely hotel, one billion percent will not be returning. The photo’s don’t show them as bad as they were and the white shorts were cleaned twice .
Less shabby-chic, more under invested

First time in Barbados and was looking for guaranteed weather and a very relaxing holiday … First impressions of the hotel were underwhelming, arrived at 4pm and the hotel grounds were generally in shade with only the front beach area bathed in the late afternoon sunshine Arrived into reception area and greeting was functional at best, not a lot of smiling welcoming team members which was disappointing. They were, however quick in assigning a room and letting us know that would we be booked into the hotel lounge for dinner this evening As we were walked through the hotel to our room it felt dated, less shabby-chic, certainly felt like it needs investment The room was on the third floor overlooking the main stage and pool with a great balcony view of the complex and more importantly the ocean We walked around the hotel to find our bearings and this confirmed my original impression that the hotel is quite dated and really needs investment to update it - less charming and more run- down The most impressive part of the hotel is the stunning walk down the jetty from the pool side area to the beach, breath taking and exactly what I thought Barbados would be. White sand (no stones or rocks) and turquoise sea. The little stretch that is at the front of the hotel feels exclusive to hotel guests although this is not the case - some residents of Sandals (next door) causally stroll up and down, but doesn’t feel intrusive. To the left of the beach area is a more expansive stretch of beach which is lovely to walk throughout the day to get those steps in! The only things that lets the beach experience down are the dated sun loungers and the number of times some of the locals are trying to get you to buy weed and cocaine as you walk! As far as Food & Beverage experience is concerned, it is pretty average at best. There is one main communal area that has approx 80 tables in which you have breakfast and evening meal in. The breakfast is Ok, as you would expect with good options for traditional breakfast, Omlette/egg manned station or cereals and pastries. The evening meal is really poor with limited options. We found an amazing restaurant TABU which is a 15 mins walk from the hotel (left out of the hotel and keep walking up St Lawrence Gap, can book it though their Facebook page on WhatsApp). There are other options for evening meals in the hotel at the Italian restaurant (need to prebook) this was OK but not exceptional and also at the daytime restaurant (The Sandtrap) which is a 3 course menu option but food feels hot-held rather than freshly cooked. Lunchtime is generally at The Sandtrap which serves a better selection than the evening The bar is in the centre of the grounds and serves a good selection of cocktails etc but all house stuff rather than branded options. Glasswear is dated and could do with investment The best little find is the coffee shop and ice cream parlour tucked away in the centre of the grounds. Great additions to the experience The hotel entertainment in the evening is above average and generally as you would expect usually from 7:30pm to 10pm As far as Team customer service is concerned it is very reactionary service rather than proactive service. Nobody is rude but generally not as friendly as I would have expected. Once you engage with the team members they generally are polite and friendly but you have to do the work first - no practice engagement generally. There is a distinct difference between the older team members and younger team members - in attitude and attention to your needs. In summary this hotel could be amazing and has all the raw materials to make your holiday truly special - but falls short though lack of investment in key areas and the service levels need a huge boost to get the team more engaged in proactive service I would say this hotel is a 3 star and as long as your expectation matches this then it is OK … not a horrific experience and certainly nothing that has meant I would complain, I just expected the facilities to be better
Not worth the money $$$
246kirras (Falls Church, Virginia) on Jan 29, 2023
I spent well over $4500 for one week here, and I can unequivocally tell you that it is not worth the money spent and I wish I had saved it and gone to another resort (like the sandals next door). Pros - Beach - Service from Maradonna - Ice cream and coffee shop Cons - Rooms are extremely outdated and I had the worst nights sleep (asked for extra pillows that might be slightly more comfortable than what we were given and were told there weren't any). Our phone didn't work the entire time we were in the room even though we told the front desk several times. The toilet clogged and was running multiple days and required maintenance. Our safe stopped working and also required security to come and reset it. - Food (there were a few decent items at the lunch or dinner buffet - but there were several days where the group of 9 of us left hungry because the food was not great and definitely not worth the money we paid). We ended up going to one of the sister resorts (Crystal Cove) and had an amazing dinner and amazing cocktails! Also the service there was night and day from this resort. - Service - several of the staff members were straight out rude. We sat at lunch more than one day and couldn't even get a glass of water, even though the resort was not even full. To say we were disappointed on a daily basis is an understatement. - Cocktails - couldn't even get a bloody mary since they ran out of tomato juice and several other mixers. I tried to get a mango margarita and had one delicious margarita before again being told that they also ran out of mango. They also only had one beer option (caribe - since they ran out of the local bottled beer). They also couldn't make mudslides on a regular basis since they ALSO ran out of chocolate sauce and kahlua. - Entertainment - I have been to several resorts that have wonderful music and entertainment throughout the day. This was not the case here. There was generally one activity per day that wasn't well communicated and was pretty boring (with about 5-7 people participating, since no one was actually going around to tell guests what was being offered). There was no music during the day, except for one day since the drilling was super loud by the pool. There was music nightly, but most nights it sounded like bad karaoke. Long story short - please save your money and go somewhere else if Food, Drinks, and Service actually matter for your trip.
Amazing week at the Turtle Beach

This was my 11th visit to Barbados but the first at Turtle Beach. Along with my partner we had a lovely relaxing week at this hotel. We found all the staff to be very proferssional, friendly and hard working. Our room was lovely overlooking the pool with a sea view. The food was of a very good quality with a lot of variety. We only tried the buffet once in the evening as we prefer a la carte to avoid temptation of overloading the plate. We thought the buffet was very good though. The variety of alcohol on offer was very good and the bar staff were excellent. Must mention Maradonna as he always had a huge smile on his face. I always make the effort to chat to staff and feel you get a better experience by doing so. We used the gym daily and it had excellent choice of equipment. The ice cream and coffee shop was also a bonus inbetween meals. The beach is lovely and although the sea was a bit choppy the pools and warm jacuzzi all made up for not being able to swim. I really do not understand the negative reviews on here about Turtle Beach as we had an amzing time. Hopefully won't be too long before we are back again.
