Waves - a real gem in Barbados

sandrinelondon (london) on Jun 23, 2022

Initially we were booked for 14 nights to stay at the Crystal Cove hotel having stayed there four years ago. Unfortunately we found Crystal Cove to be really dated and in need of a makeover. Whilst there were some positives such as the large beach, a selection of good food at Reflections and the Vista bar for great Martinis (thanks Raheem), I found some staff to be quite rude at times & not what I would have expected in delivering good customer service. After taking advantage of being able to visit sister hotels we spent a day at Waves in the adults only section & decided that we much preferred this boutique style hotel. I liaised with Virgin holidays we were fortunately able to transfer us to Waves staying in the adults only section across the road from the main hotel. Our room was quite large with two single beds for two friends sharing. Our room was cleaned every day to a high standard (thanks Pauline) with water left every day & facilities to make coffee & tea. The staff at Waves provide an exemplary service and special thanks to Jaqueline & Tamesha. There are two restaurants to choose & book in the evening (Seascape & the Asian Fusion). We preferred Seascape as we did not enjoy the meal in the Asian Fusion restaurant. Breakfast is a buffet and there is a wide selection of food to choose from. There is a cafe which also serves lunch style snacks, coffee, tea & cakes. The bar is located in the main hotel & the staff are great & drinks excellent. We spent all our time at the adult only pool with a pool service provided by the wonderful pool ambassador Pamela who is fabulous & a real credit to the hotel. We had lunch poolside along with regular drinks & frozen grapes provided & in the afternoon sprayed with a peppermint mist. Overall this hotel is a real gem, all the staff are a credit welcoming you, going above & beyond. I’ll definitely be back.

An incredible honeymoon

84Mel84 (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) on Jun 15, 2022

We have just returned from a 10 night stay at Waves for our honeymoon. We have had the most wonderful time, it being our first visit to Barbados we didnt know what to expect but we weren't disappointed. We don't usually opt for all inclusive as we like to enjoy local food, we were a little worried that we might not have the carribean experience but we needn't of worried. Each day whether it be at the buffet breakfast and lunch or evening meals there was always an option to cater to all tastes, we particularly enjoyed the local fish options, everything was cooked to a really high standard. A real highlight for us was the West Indian buffet night, we are real foodies and the food was just incredible, hats off to the chefs! We stayed in an ocean front room which was beautiful, well worth upgrading to wake up to the carribean sea each morning, house keeping were fantastic. We spent time at both of the pools and the beach, never had a problem getting a lounger at anytime of day. The beach and pool ambassadors were all really attentive, always making sure we had a drink in our hand. The cocktails were amazing, we worked our way through the list, the grapefruit cooler and rum punch being a favourite. We also took advantage of the scenic island tour, swimming with turtles and oistins fish fry shuttle all arranged via the hotel. After researching trips beforehand booking these via the hotel worked out to be much cheaper so was great value. The spa treatments were great, such a treat! The 3 spa treatments per person included were a real selling point for us and we weren't disappointed. Evening entertainment consisted of some talented vocalists and bands, really enjoyable chilled evenings in a really relaxed atmosphere. If you are looking for a lively nightlife this perhaps won't be suited to you unless you venture outside of the hotel in the evenings, it was perfect for us. Overall a truly wonderful stay, everyone was incredibly friendly and really made you feel at home. We were so sad to leave but have some wonderful memories ?

Fantastic Holiday

Julie T (Beds) on Jun 14, 2022

If it wasn't for the excellent staff at this hotel I probably wouldn't have given this hotel an excellent rating as the hotel is a little dated and a bit of a strange set up with the adult section over the other side of the road but none of this affected our holiday as all the staff are so friendly and helpful and really go out of their way to ensure you have a great trip. This applied to all staff from the reception team, restaurant & bar team, coffee shop ladies, cleaners and the beach staff - I couldn't fault any of them. The reception staff knew our names and room numbers probably a day after arriving, they have wonderful memories. The food in both restaurants was delicious, especially the Asian restaurant and loved being waited on so didn't enjoy the couple of buffet nights as although the food was tasty it was unpleasant standing in the heat waiting for others especially with face coverings on (which I know is the law in Barbados at the moment). The breakfasts were buffet style so again not pleasant if you had to wait for food but there was such a great selection that usually you could just get what you wanted without standing around. Plenty of selection from fruit, cereals, yougurts, cakes, pastries, pancakes, hot food, freshly cooked omlettes, continental - basically anything you could possibly want from breakfast was probably available. The coffee shop was another great hit as was nice to be able to have a sandwich, wrap etc at lunchtime instead of buffet and these were made to order and delicious. The cakes looked delicious too but always so full I never actually got to try one. The service on the beach was fantastic, regularly asking what drinks you wanted - the smoothies were very tasty and a couple of times a day frozen grapes and ice lollies were brought round. The sunbeds were really comfortable and always easy to find one at whatever time you arrived on the beach. Although the beach area is small it didn't seem crowded and the sea was warm and clear just as you'd expect from the caribbean. The spa treatments were lovely but book these as soon as you get to the hotel as the availability was limited. Again the staff in the spa were extremely friendly and helpful. The adult pool was a nice break from the beach but we only went a couple of times, for a quick dip, so not sure of the service if you sat around the pool all day. We had one pool room and one ocean view room and both were very clean and cleaned to a high standard every day whilst we were out. My husband celebrated his 50th birthday whilst we were there and although we hadn't informed the hotel a lovely cake and bottle of wine were left in our room which was a really nice touch. We used the water taxi a couple of times to Crystal Cove and Taramind and spent a couple of pleasant hours at each, great you can use the all inclusive at the partner hotels for no extra charge. The evening entertainment was usually a singer and they were normally good but not many people listening and stopped around 10.30 so if you want a good nightlife then you would either need to go out in the evening or choose another hotel. Overall a fantastic holiday and would definitely recommend Waves Hotel.

Wonderful Stay

Mullwi (Boston, Massachusetts) on Jun 04, 2022

Great Small Hotel. We stayed across the street in the adults only section. If you can afford a pool view room rather than standard, it is well worth it. We had beautiful room with balcony overlooking the pool. Even caught a glimpse of some monkeys playing early one morning which was fun. Jacqueline was frequently at the front desk and we chatted with her several nights. She wasn’t working one night and we missed seeing her. Beautiful huge porch over looking water off of the beautiful lobby and terrace area. Used water taxi several times to visit other hotels. Hard to describe how great it is, but we hope to go back again!

Almost perfect

KayMo26 on May 21, 2022

This was our second visit to Waves, and our fifth to the island. Our stay overall was lovely but there were just a couple of niggles that staff did their best to resolve. We booked room 520 on the spa side which was advertised as a one bedroom suite with a pool view. The room itself was beautiful and spacious but sadly had the view of a roof that was almost within touching distance! We expressed our concerns and were quickly ‘upgraded’ to a split level room on the beach side. While the views here were lovely, there wasn’t really much space or storage for the three of us, especially with the sofa bed made up. This room also had a ‘wet bar’ which appeared to be simply a sink - the fridge was empty throughout our stay. To be fair to the staff, they did their best by moving us, and regularly checked to make sure we were happy, but room 520 should definitely not be described as having a pool view. Beds were huge and very comfortable. Cleaners left our room spotless each day and the air con in the room is fantastic. The hotel looks clean and fresh - just as it did when we visited 3 years ago. Staff are all super friendly and welcoming., and are a credit to the hotel. The pool area is so peaceful although sun beds are in short supply and guests DO reserve them early, despite there being a policy stating that this isn’t allowed. Sun beds are very comfy and fresh towels supplied daily. Drinks and snacks delivered throughout the day were very welcome. Food was mostly okay, although one night I waited an hour for my main course (gnocchi) only for it to be served cold. Sometimes the service was a little slow while we waited to be seated or fed (perhaps covid has had an impact on staffing levels?) but that’s very much the whole vibe of the island - nobody rushes anything! We enjoyed our complimentary spa treatments - a real treat - and overall felt that the all inclusive was good value. The hotel is quiet and peaceful so don’t go there if you want a lively atmosphere. For a restful break in paradise, it’s pretty perfect.
