Would definitely come back

elihondo on Feb 04, 2023

We were transferred here from another resort in Cayo Coco after having many issues there (electrocuted, no hot water and water runs out after 1 min, facilities close at 3:45, toilet not attached to the ground, found a bra in our room from previous guests, no door on bathroom, etc.). Gran Muthu Imperial was such a welcome change. The staff are lovely and always helpful and the rooms are clean and modern. There are two nice pools and a decent beach for snorkeling (lots of coral and fish but not as sandy). The next resort over has a sandier beach if that's more your style. The catamaran rides are free around the bay for half an hour and you can pay $25 CAD to catamaran to a nearby island for snorkeling.

Nice

My wife and I visited this resort from 18 -25 Jan 23 My thoughts on this resort are as follows: Rooms ...We paid to upgrade to an ocean view and were put in building 9 on the second floor and it was perfect. Incredible view over looking the ocean as requested. The room was satisfactory and our maid did a nice job every 2 days as we asked. The resort is not massive ( like Mexico last month) and everything was no more than a 2-3 minute walk away. Pool...There were 3 pools all close together and we spent time at all of them on different days depending on our tolerance to the noise in the swim up bar pool or the thump-thump of the entertainment music in the middle pool. The guys at the swim up bar were always on top of things but a special shout out goes to Yennifer(sp) at the Havana club bar. She was always smiling and we and the friends we met there were very appreciative of her service. Thanks. Food...The buffet was typical of Cuba. There was always something for everybody and though I had bread, yogurt and pineapple everyday for breakfast I survived (these were what I chose to have. There were many other options..pancakes, omelettes ect). Pork and chicken (again may other options were available) for dinner everyday may be repetitive for some but I loved it. Lunch daily was a hamburger and fries at the 24 hour snack bar...some BBQ sauce makes it all taste great. I will never complain about the food in Cuba as they do a nice job with what they have. Thanks to all. Beach.. The beach was OK but you had to walk a couple hundred yards toward the rainbow resort to get away from the coral in the water(not a complaint, just an observation). You can walk through the other Grand Muthu resort next door to get to another beach that goes for a couple km...nice walk. We did not spend alot of time on the beach anyway as it was pretty windy most days. Entertainment... We didn't go to any shows, though the dance lessons in the lobby were fun to watch. Overall I would recommend this resort highly. We were planning to return on the 8th Feb with friends but the prices went up almost $500 per person and although we liked this resort for around $1100 each we cannot do it for over $1500. So will likely look at returning next Jan. when prices drop.

Not Happy

pjq2018 (Toronto, Canada) on Feb 03, 2023

We just returned home from this resort. We were booked next door at the Grand Muthu Guillermo for two weeks and after one week of hell we transferred to this resort. The Gr Muthu Guillermo was overcrowded and lineups for Every single thing. This resort was not full so you were always able to find seats etc. The beach is not as nice (coral) but the pools are good, rooms are good. There was a shortage of towels several times and the white wine was terrible. We travel to Cayo Coco 3 times a year and this was the worst food that we have every encountered. I spent 2 days sick in the room. Not sure if it was food poisoning or stomach flu. We did not try the specialty restaurants as we were booked during my illness. The best food we had was the ham and cheese sandwiches at the snack bar. The biggest complaint I have is the volume and non stop talking of the animation people at the pools every day. It is basically the same amount of people and same people who participate in these games etc and yet the majority of people have to listen to the constant yapping...The worst part is that you could still hear the animation people from the Grand Muthu Guillermo next door as well. There is NO quiet place to go and relax or read unless you walk down to the beach. We will never return to this resort

Amazing stay!

OnAir796458 (Gatineau, Canada) on Feb 02, 2023

I love my stay at the Gran Muthu Imperial. This was my first time at an adults-only resort, and I recommend it, especially if you want to relax. If you are looking for lots of entertainment, this is not the place. There are some at the pools and in the lobby at night. The nightly shows start late (9:30 pm), so I would have preferred they start earlier. The staff was truly very nice and welcoming. We had the best waiter at the Buffet (Ernesto). The view from the pools (especially the infinity pool) was amazing. Had an ocean view from my room and it was great. The food well, they do their best with what they can get and I'm fine with that. I’m not a picky eater. If you are coming to Cuba with high expectations, then don’t bother. However, the Cuban people and the beaches are worth it. The ham and cheese sandwiches at the Snack Bar were very good. Needless to say that is what we had for most of our lunches. The omelets, waffles and pancakes at the buffet for breakfast were great. Not much to do around the resort although there is a small market at the resort next to ours (Gran Muth Cayo Guillermo – family resort) and there is also a bus that takes you to the market in Cayo Coco. Playa Pilar was beautiful. The beach at the resort is not that bad. I have read some negative comments, but I thought it was fine. You can access it to the left of building 5. It is rocky at first so you need some water shoes and if you keep walking you are good. We did 2 catamaran excursions: the day one and the sunset one. Simply AMAZING! Best catamaran runs I have done in all my travels so far. We got the same boat for both excursions, the Kon Tiki. That crew was so much fun. The sunset from the evening run was beautiful. Muchas gracias to Alex, Angel, and Johnny from the Kon Tiki. All in all, this was a great stay. The most relaxing vacation I have had to date. I do recommend this resort. The staff work hard to keep it nice and clean.
