Ideal price-quality ratio

Spent an unforgettable week at the Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo with my wife and 6 year old son. Everything was great, the rooms are clean and spacious. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food in the buffet, honestly, I expected much worse. Cold meats, pork dishes, fresh fish, fresh vegetables and fruits daily, delicious breads and fruit jams. A lot of people in the buffet for dinner, which creates queues for groceries. Therefore, you need to come to the opening. The beach is clean. The sea was stormy all week, but we went to the magnificent Pilar beach by taxi for $ 5 round trip. On Pilar beach, the sea is calmer, there are fewer waves and the water is warmer. This is the most beautiful beach in Cayo Coco. I would like to mention the manager of the Beatriz Quesada hotel, who got in touch with me after a small complaint and promptly resolved all issues. Would I return to this hotel again? Definitely yes. I recommend.

Great 2 week vacation

EHtravelsalot (Ottawa, Canada) on Feb 04, 2023

We stayed here from Jan 19 to Feb 2nd. We had an amazing time. Resort is beautiful. We have been to Cuba 12 times since 2016. First time at this resort based on a friend recommendation. Hotel was clean, rooms comfortable and clean. Building 4, first floor. Room cleaner was awesome. Food was great. Staff are amazing. The staff really make you feel welcome and true friends. Genuine greetings in every area. Inalvis and Migdiala at the breakfast and lunch buffet always greeted us with a smile and great service. The buffets are great. Lots of choices. Always bread, meat, cheese, salads, pasta, pork, fish, vegetable, desserts, fruit, ice cream, champagne, etc. Too much to list everything. The lunch Ranchero buffet is also amazing. Tons of choices plus a pizza option. The pizza was amazing. Special thanks to Yuxdanya for great service and attention. There are 2 other restaurants for lunch (a la cartes). Sendero is in the cutest area in the mangroves. Alexie and staff take great care in preparing a beautiful lunch slow roasted over charcoal. They take pride in preparing a beautiful and delicious meal. We had either chicken, pork or fish options. El Gardin was also delicious with a pork or fish option. Both were excellent. The mashed potatoes are soooo good. Thanks Eliecer for the great service and attention. Dinner a la cartes were great. Try the soup!!!! Its delicious. A super thank you to all the great staff at the lobby bar. We love the cappuccino's. Yusdany, Gustof, Alberto, Danieleys, and all the others do an amazing job. I'm sorry I didn't get everyones name. They work so hard and so fast with great service. Special thank you to Yoan and Beatriz who made a point of asking if we were enjoying out time and ensuring all was well. The resort is smaller but we love this because we could really get to know the staff. The pool is amazing. Clean and refreshing. Having the infinity pool overlooking the ocean is mesmerizing. Grabbed a white wine and relaxed looking over the ocean from the pool! The beach is beautiful. We walked 8km (4km each way) barefoot. Clean and sandy. We loved it so much we booked again for March 2023. See you soon.

Fun but did not live up to the hype

JennaC109 (Bowmanville, Canada) on Feb 03, 2023

We had read so many wonderful reviews about this resort online and we couldn't wait to go for our first family vacation. We arrived at the resort just before midnight and the staff were very welcoming. When we got to our room we were initially pleased with the cleanliness of it and settled in for the night. The beds were horrifically uncomfortable. Our bed concaved on all sides and the pillows were so flat it was like they were non existent. Needless to say we slept horrible that night and every other night that week. In the morning when we woke up to unpack our clothes we opened the drawers in the closet and were overwhelmed with the stench of fish/decay. It was absolutely disgusting. I had packed disinfectant wipes and tried to clean it the best I could but the smell lingered. The bathroom, although clean, smelled strongly of must and the shower would not drain. Every shower the drain clogged and would spill out onto the floor. The maid service throughout the week was very lackluster. My family is very clean and tips very well but we would return to our room in the evening to find our towels had not been changed and counters not wiped. I don't believe our sheets were changed once the entire time were there. My husband asked the maid one day if she could please change the towels and sheets and her response to him was "to not get them dirty." He was completely taken back by the abrasive comment. The rest of the resort, with the exception of the public washroom areas however appeared very clean. The buffet was a frustrating experience. For a resort this size they do not have as many food options open and available as there should be. The line up just to get into the buffet was sometimes very long and once inside you could wait up to 30-40 minutes for certain food items. There were always plenty of food options, but dining was definitely a frustrating experience. The buffet is poorly laid out which causes several different line ups and areas of congestion within the restaurant as well. Serving staff in the buffet were either hit or miss. Some were great and very welcoming and attentive while others were rude and short. More then half the days we were never brought water or coffee and often had to find someone and ask for water. The ala cartes were fantastic. The food was delicious and the dining experience was a nice change from the buffet. The pools were all beautiful and well kept and the grounds were clean and well maintained. We passed many maintenance staff throughout our days and they were always pleasant and cheerful. The ladies at the front desk and customer service were so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed visiting the snack bar and pool bar for drinks and the staff were always in a great mood. I had many different drinks and enjoyed each and every one. The evening entertainment was fun and our kids loved participating in the kids show. Overall we had a great trip. It is a fun family resort and if you go to Cuba with the right attitude and expectations you will have fun regardless of any issues. We were definitely disappointed with our maid service and the smell in our room and found meal times frustrating but the beautiful ocean and pools made those things not matter quite so much. I would not return to this resort, but I do not regret going at all.

Honest review...Don't Go

pjq2018 (Toronto, Canada) on Feb 03, 2023

We go to Cayo Coco several times a year and we love the beaches and the Cuban people but I really wish that I had listened to the negative reviews on this resort. I just assumed that people did not know what to expect in Cuba so I didnt really believe some of the things that I was reading. Was I wrong. First of all the beach was nice, the rooms were clean, the grounds were pretty but that is it. The resort was full and clearly the staff could not keep up and were overwhelmed. You line up for absolutely everything. We were booked at this resort for two weeks and ended up transferring to another resort after one week. We were NEVER able to get a seat in the lobby bar. You lined up at the lobby bar (25 people min) to get a glass of wine or drink. You lined up to get into the buffet and once you were inside it was hard to find a table and then you got in more lineups to get food from the grill stations. The buffet was absolutely swarming with flies. They were on the tables, on the food, in the food....Ive never experienced anything like this in Cuba. The line ups for EVERYTHING were unbelievable. The food station is not set up very well so if you just want to pick up something at the buffet, you are in the same line up as those waiting for their pasta, grilled meat etc...Its ridiculous I know management will say that the fly situation is out of their control because its a tropical country but the grand muthu next door had no flies. I know this is a family resort and it was at full occupancy but the amount of children at this resort was surprising. It would be ok if the parents didn't let them run wild through the lobby and restaurants and take over every single pool. The pools were full most days of childrens floaties and children jumping and screaming for hours on end in the pools. There needs to be an adults ONLY pool designated and if there was it was not enforced. The other problem is the animation staff. Yes, they are friendly BUT.....It is the same amount and same people pretty much every day who participate (a minority) and yet the rest of us have to listen to the constant talking on the microphone all day long. Its fine to play music at the pools at a reasonable level BUT some people just want to relax or read. I don't understand why the resort (entertainment animations staff) cater to the small amount of people who play the crazy games, darts etc and why the rest of us have to listen to the scores over a microphone...We don't care After one week of this hell, we moved next door to the adults only Grand Muthu imperial and we could still here the animation staff from the Grand Muthu Guillermo over there.. We would never return to this hotel.

Couldn’t Ask For A Better Vacation

Paul A (Ontario, Canada) on Feb 03, 2023

Stayed from January 19 until February 2 and had a wonderful vacation. The people hired to run this resort go out of there way to make your stay comfortable and relaxing.Only downfall we experienced was the buffet, but it’s the visitors who think they can but in that ruin it.(Yes you know who I mean) Anyways room was spotless and we always from good food. You have to remember there is a food shortage. My wife and I met so many people from home who where so awesome.I give this resort a 5* because they certainly look after you.Cheers to all the people I met.
