This was my first time in Cayo Coco and my bfs first time in Cuba, this resort was amazing and beat all our expectations. He was very worried about the food hearing horror stories but the food was amazing, the a La cart Mediterranean night was out favourite but the others were also very good. The breakfast at the buffet was great omelettes were great and if you were quick enough to grab one the fresh donuts were unreal. For. Snack the fries, ham and cheese sandwiches and pizza at the snack bar are a must. The staff was amazing Alexander at the lobby bar was the first person we met and he was so great he always hooked us up with the best drinks the cafe Español was to die for and the cappuccinos were always a must. The resort is a little old but everything was very clean, we heard from other people on the plane home who were staying in newer resorts that they were not very clean, ours was always spotless. We stayed in the 22 number cottages they were pretty old inside and dark but had a brand new AC which we loved. Everything is very walkable in the resort and you walk over a lagoon to get to the beach and it is beautifully lite at night. The beach is small but very nice Sandy the water was so nice and warm. There is also a cigar bar located in the old part of the hotel that is open 7-11 pm and that is where the premium booze is. Freddy who runs it is the best and makes the most unreal mojitos. The lounge is nice and has a pool table. We will definitely be back again!
Amazing beach, nice big pool, rooms are a bit rough, staff is so kind, hotel is old and recovering, supply chain issues
Jan 11, 2023
We came as a family from Southern Ontario on New Year’s Eve. My husband and 2 boys (10,12) and I were at the Mojito for 1 week. It was a really nice get away with very little hiccups and we feel really lucky to have had the opportunity to travel and enjoy the beauty of Cuba. Overall this is the vacation we expected and we planned accordingly.
-BEACH! (The beach is sooo beautiful and there are many new sun shelters and the bar, snacks and bathroom are very convenient)
-the pool is lovely and big with action on the upper level and more quiet on the lower level. There is also the adults only pool for a more quiet and kid free experience)
-pool snacks and beach snacks (if your kids live on fries, burgers and pizza you are in luck. There are lots everyday. Plan accordingly, it can be a bit of a wait.)
-Freddy’s cigar bar is something really special (it is on the path to the water sports in the lagoon)
-Spanish coffee in the lobby bar
-Quiet resort (it is not at capacity as they continue to update…it is an old resort, fix…there is still some catastrophic damage from the hurricane and recover…covid had an impact in the upkeep and restoration)
-Staff try very hard to make your experience a good one
-Wifi is free and pretty reliable in the lobby
-Catamaran ride to snorkel on the reef ($) (Felix in the water sports was great!)
-This is an older resort in need of updates and repair (hurricane)
-Food (It is Cuba so our expectations weren’t unreasonable but it seems as though there are major issues on getting food especially out to Cayo Coco. There was always something to eat and we used it as fuel but standard items such as bacon, pancakes/crepes and yogurt were not available)
-Drinks (the beer was cold and the rum was good in coffee but there were no juices or blender drinks -other than at Freddy’s- no mojitos-lol
-block 21 air conditioning was non-existent and the plumbing was terrible (apparently some blocks have been updated. Ours was not in those)
-rooms don’t have balconies
-uneven paths is a problem for those with mobility issues
-We couldn’t get a late check out and we had to vacate the room at noon and didn’t leave the resort until 7pm.
*book the vip at the airport if your budget will allow. Considering the unreliability of departure times it makes a huge difference. Air conditioning, snacks, drinks and wifi included.
