Staff were amazing from the moment we checked in till we checked out ! The stay was great we had a fantastic time . The Animation team did a great job teaching us how to dance and making sure everyone was having a great time during the party !!! Wancho and Irismey you guys rock ... I already miss my dance lesson !!!
Every staff were super friendly ... always smiling and greeting Hola anytime they see you !! Special mention to Exclever, Nancy and Elizabeth from the buffet restaurant , and also to Nestor the Gardiner who gave me a sweet mangoe when I was coming back from the beach! To Barbara who made sure we got the nice room and the best view ..thank you so much !!
Sergio the F&B manager went out of his way so that we can celebrate Canada Day in Cuba, they even created Canadian Flag cocktail .
The buffet was ok .. the a la carte needs a little improvement. But I didn't expect much about foods since this is not my first time in Cuba, I was there for the beach , relaxation and a little dance at night. The only thing I didn't like about this resort is the cleanliness of the room, it seems like the housekeepers need training on how to properly clean the rooms. But it's just a little thing compared to great time we had ... Thank you Dhawa staff I will comeback again!!!
Health and Safety issues
Jul 02, 2022
I stayed at this hotel between June 26th and July 3rd with great disappointment in how cleanliness and basic hygiene standards are lacking. The hotel is infested with flies everywhere and we are talking about schools of flies surrounding your cup while your drink is being prepared. No basic Food Safety or hygiene standards are followed anywhere, staff coughing into their hands with out washing prior to serving you. No sneeze guards in the buffet areas. This is the place to go too if you want to get sick. Food quality and selection is very poor.
The one and only bar that is free from bugs and the elements is only open on Limited Hours and was closed one evening of the week "Havana Club"
I was in Building 4 and was never able to get a good nights sleep with loud music blaring from the lobby bar which turned into a disco close to the rooms. Why couldn't they have used the theater with much more space and away from the rooms? Where is the competence here with the staff at the hotel?
I frequently had to request clean towels and bed sheets as blood stains were commonly found on them. In addition I had to agrue with the front desk manager for a simple roll of toilet paper????? Come on......
Gym staff and Restaurant staff would bother you to give them your shoes, clothing items or toiletries in exchange for showing you pictures of their spouses and family members, the tall lifeguard was too busy trying to pick up women or was sleeping on the job at the pool. Staff professionalism and competence is seriously lacking here.
Very simple issues that seriously need to be addressed. If your looking for basic quality. Do not stay here!

"Avoid this hotel if you are a gay couple"
Jun 28, 2022
We are a gay male couple vacationing in Dhawa June 19-26. The landscape is idyllic, the sea magnificent and we had a very clean and spacious room with an incredible view. The swimming pool is large and immaculately clean. There are enough shady areas to be able to sit comfortably on the beach or at the pool. The food is correct, in line with the quality/price ratio. The place is generally pleasant and well maintained, with lush and manicured gardens. And as a bonus we got to meet so many wonderful people among the customers!
Unfortunately our stay was tarnished by the openly homophobic attitude of some employees. The heterosexual couple we were vacationing with were amazed at how differently we were treated as we shared a table at the bar for happy hour.
As soon as we checked in upon arrival, the desk clerk assigned us a twin room despite my request for a king bed. I had to be very insistent to get it assigned to me…the next day, as the employee was pretending each time that there was no other room available (the hotel was at approximately 20% capacity).
The minibar was empty and out of order. I asked for a bottle of water and the receptionist told me that there was no bottled water available in the hotel (?). I had to go to the lobby bar myself and give a tip to an employee to finally get 2 bottles of water…at midnight!
Another annoyance: the same employee (at the lobby desk) had omitted to include a coupon for beach towels, and had not even bothered to explain the procedure to us, so we lost more than one hour the next morning to claim the coupon at reception.
I was only assigned a new King bed room the next day in the afternoon, after a lot of steps. I even had to have an appointment with a manager (Veishi) to explain my situation to her.
In addition, I was told at the front desk that I had only paid for a garden view room and that I would be charged for the upgrade to a sea view, which was completely false (I had paid for a Premium sea view room thru an Air Transat travel agency prior to our vacation). I had to address this issue to our very professional and competent Air Transat representative YAYLIN, who fixed the issue with a manager, and we were not overcharged, thanks to her!
The baggage handler/driver who assisted us with the room change even had the insolence to ask me with a smirk what was the reason my spouse and I wanted a new room (while he was in the room observing us packing).
Although most of the employees are smiling, professional and courteous, some have a homophobic attitude bordering on aggressiveness, rudeness and a lack of respect that they do not even try to camouflage (front desk, lobby bar and porter/driver).
However, all the employees of the buffet, catering and housekeeping were impeccable. We had an exceptional maid (block 3 2nd floor).
Special thanks to Laura, Valentin, Carlos, Mary, Elisabeth, Exclever…and also to Jorge from the animation team...
A special mention to Omar and Madeylin, such kindness and class!
If you are a gay couple, best to avoid this hotel. Management would benefit from offering better training to its employees so that they learn to treat all their customers courteously, regardless of their personal prejudices, otherwise it would be preferable that they work in another sphere of activity. Too bad we had to go through such a situation. I hope they will be able to make the necessary corrections and pay particular attention to this situation in their hiring criteria.
Cuba prides itself on being “gay friendly”, this was not the case for us and did not give us a very positive image of Cuba on this specific matter.
Outstanding And Devoted Staff
Jun 16, 2022
Hi my name is ANTONIO L. (TONY) From Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Between May 22 -29, 2022 my girlfriend and I stayed at Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria in CUBA for a one week getaway vacation.
I am rating this resort 5+ on 5 Stars.
On our arrival we were welcomed by the General Manage ROBERT PEREZ (A true gentlemen) along with his outstanding devoted staff.
First of all, I must say that the food there was excellent, from the - buffet style to their fine Cuisines - (all you can eat of course).
This fairly new hotel will be celebrating their 6 year anniversary on December 2022.
The rooms are luxurious style are very clean and well accommodate. Every day we saw large amount of employees working and grooming all around the resort to keep clean and beautiful. That was very remarkable and pleasant for me to see.
The beach is beautiful with its white sand. They offer varies types of watersports such as catamaran, pedal boat, kayak, wind surfing and more…. or if you want you can just soak up the sun.
I would like to give a special thanks to the staff members whom I got to know:
To the Lobby and Bar Team: Sara, Zhenia, and the Espresso Kings Rafael and Pedro.
The luggage driver: Pedro (who on the first day delivered our suit cases to our room and showed my girlfriend and me around the resort).
To the Snack and Buffet queens: Evelyn, Yaleria, Daily, Wendy who gave us their smiles ever morning.
( I Need to add the name of the lady who made me 3 pan cakes every morning).
To the Beach Team: The chair guys Yiomar & Francisco, The Lifeguards: Yordan, Yasmani and Miquel, The Catamaran Master: Rauniel, and all the guys serving the refreshment at the beach.
And of course to the resort Doctor: Alejandro.
Every one of these people made our stay special. Simply everybody there was excellent, truly nice genuine people.
We definitely recommend this place.
All The Best to you all.
