Not worth it

Jackie V on Jun 24, 2022

The room advertised on their marketing videos is nowhere near what the actual room looks like. Hole in the wall in the bathroom and the handles for the shower are dangerous and I cannot turn on the rain shower head because water will spread on the bathroom floor. Every time we shower the floor gets soaked from the tiny square shower head. The soap dish falls off the wall. The sink only has cold water and I am afraid to open the ragged doors on the cabinet that’s connected to the sink. The bathroom is hideous. The bed creeks every time you sit on it. The room is limited to two towels and when we arrived there were no wash clothes in the room and we had to request them. You are not allowed to put your poop and pee toilet paper in the toilet you have to put it in the trash can wish had the bathroom reeking of feces until the morning when you put it outside your hotel door. There is no ice machine and you have to get ice from the one bar they have. That bar opens at 10 and closes at 7pm so basically no ice for you. There is a balcony for the room, however you can’t use it because it reeks of cigarette smoke because they consider that the smoking area cause you can’t smoke in your room. This is day and night. So we are stuck in the room with no use of a balcony we paid for. The kitchen is the worst looking thing I’ve ever seen. In a word the place is ancient and needs to be redone. On June 24 they hosted a Rotary Club of Curaçao. They didn’t inform us, the paying guest, we arrived back to the hotel trying to find a parking space, Music is blasting outside of our room and you can hear the music so loud in the room as if there are no doors. We were tired from our day and went to the office to see the manager to make a complaint but the manager will not be in until 10am. We did find out that the party was not going to be over until 1030. Go figure, how in the hell are we supposed to rest when it sounds like the party is in our room with blasting music and freaking announcements and loud clapping. It seems we have to endure this for 2 hrs and 45 mins. There goes our plans for waking up early to go hiking. We cannot enjoy the balcony because of the music and the smoking. Further the photographer of the event could not find the rest room so he decided to urinate in the bushes in the parking lot. We upgraded to a two bed room apartment for this? The reason we upgraded because the “Deluxe” room we reserved smelled like a basement and we thought there was a second floor as we requested. We were not informed it was one level. What made it a “deluxe”was a patio with two chairs. Room had no chairs only a bed. They advertise no smoking in the bedroom however guests can smoke anywhere. This is upsetting that we cannot enjoy our balcony because the guests are free to smoke outside. This hotel should have a no smoking section. Housekeeping is really housestocking. They stock up on toilet paper and replace two towels. Beds are made but they do not clean the bathrooms. No smell that they actually use bleach to clean the bathrooms. Only positive is the front desk personnel are nice however this hotel leaves a lot to be desired. Stay somewhere else. If I ever return to this island we will be at the Marriott, for sure. The music is so loud we can’t even sleep.

An Ideal and Peaceful Place for a Quiet or Active Vacation

satyamr868 (San Fernando, Trinidad) on Apr 20, 2022

Staying at Acoya for 4 nights was far better than I expected. To start, the location is very ideal, with Acoya being only a 20 minute drive from the airport, 15 minutes from Willemstad, and very close to the aquarium, freezone and other big attractions. Many tour agencies (including Irie Tours) picked us up at the hotel and brought us back. Acoya even has free daily shuttle services to and from Mambo Beach, Downtown Willemstad and the grocery, which all made getting around Curacao very easy and affordable. Acoya is also far from busy main roads, so the entire resort is always quiet and peaceful. Regarding the hotel services, all were exceptional. The staff can speak fluent English, Papiamento, Dutch, Spanish, and some German. Late checkout can be easily requested and is usually allowed, the concierge desk remains open until 10PM, all the hotel staff are extremely helpful, courteous, professional and caring, and the housekeeping is always on time and thorough in cleaning the rooms. Tours can be easily booked and paid for, taxis can be called and documents for travel can be easily printed at the front desk The restaurants and bar are right next to the lake and pool and serve delicious food and desserts. At the resort, I usually ordered pasta, burgers, fries, ice cream and brownies for dinner - All of which were delicious. The 4 nights I stayed at Acoya even had live musical and jazz performances. Breakfast is served buffet style and includes delicious muffins, toast, croissants, eggs, hashbrowns, fruits, and more. Hot chocolate and coffee are easily available. All of the food was delivered in good time as well. I was highly satisfied with all the food options available and they were all delicious. At Acoya, I stayed in a 2-bedroom villa with a living room, tv, kitchen, fridge, and 2 bathrooms. The room was very spacious and was close to the lobby. It was very clean as well. You can even request to have bottled water delivered to the room. There's also an outdoor balcony area so you can put wet clothes that you wore to the beach outside. Overall, staying at Acoya was a fantastic experience. It satisfies everything you need at a cheaper price than staying in downtown Willemstad. My favourite things about Acoya included the proximity to tourist sites, Willemstad, and the freezone, as well as how easy it was to get around. I also loved how quiet, laidback, and peaceful the resort felt, as well as the food, pool, and how tours can pick you up at the hotel. I'd highly recommend staying at Acoya regardless of the purpose of your trip. Doesn't matter if you are visiting for business, wanting to go out everyday, or just want to stay by the pool, Acoya perfectly accommodates all travel purposes and is perfect for all ages and families to stay at.
